Publisher's summary

If you want to discover the captivating history of The Black Death, then pay attention....

The Black Death was the first recorded pandemic in Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire. All across the continent, people learned just how gruesome and horrific disease could be as the plague crossed the boundaries of countries and the lines established by society, killing everyone equally. It showed that no one - not even archbishops and kings - was immune from its grasp. The ferocity with which the plague swept across the continent, even reaching the shores of England, demonstrated how unprepared they were for something on such a large scale. It was the first time that a major disease would strike the continent after the fall of the Roman Empire, but it would not be the last.

The plague!

This is history during medieval Europe yet many are still talking and devastated of how and why it happened. Reason why I pick up this book is to know more deeply about it. So far I can say that a great guide to have.

Good audio with High Impact

The book does a great job of emphasizing the black death and its impact on the world and how probably none of us will endure such an event in our lifetime.

a nice short story

The history of this and other illness is a favorite topic and this is a great general with some deeper thought to jump back into it.

Excellent

Easily absorbed informative style. Leaves one wishing for more detail of the diseases but is true to it's promise of hourly history.

The Pandemic Years

I am listening to a historical story on the topic and wanted some background, and this was ideal. The purpose and topics are clear and compelling and the method flows well.

Elucidating and educational for me

Well written, and very informative. It's missing some notes to clarify, but it is one of the best books I ever read of the Black Death.

Well researched and written

Pretty clinical in detail. A very fascinating review of a disastrous time in history. Great feeling for what caused the recurring outbreaks and mass deaths. Overall a worthy read.
