About this listen

She was his second wife - to die. Coming off a failed marriage, a beautiful woman named Toni joined an online dating site hoping to find true and lasting love.

Harold Henthorn seemed like her dream come true, a handsome man who said he had “[A] heart for others”. Only weeks after meeting, they were wed.

But Toni's family began noticing Harold's dark side, especially his controlling nature, which Toni didn't seem to mind. Until she met her end at the bottom of a ravine.

Was he a grieving husband - or a black widower?

Harold's tearful story of his wife's hiking “accident” just didn't hold up with Toni's family or the police. Then a shocking truth was uncovered: 20 years before, Harold's first wife had also died suspiciously in a remote area with no witnesses.

Soon, more questions arose: Who was Harold Henthorn - a devoted, grief-stricken husband or a cold, calculating killer? Could authorities find a way to connect his wives' deaths and expose the truth?

great audiobook. narrator is addictive

Even though I knew of this tragic senseless saga via dateline and 48 hours. I listened. And so glad I did.! There is only so many details to be given in a 1 hour show vs a book. I didnt think this monster could possibly be anymore horrid. I was wrong. Toni's family has done a wonderful job of honoring her by keeping the thoughts and accusations to themselves. they carried themselves with dignity and class. God Bless her young daughter

My only issue, or question is how and why the law, or justice system could allow Toni's body to be cremated when the results of the autopsy clearly stated homicide could not be ruled out. this really bothers me. Are there no laws governing cremating a body before there has been a definitive answer in the cause of death???

Good but...

The author could have created so much suspense if he had waited to tell us about the 1st murder so soon after the crime. It could have been full of suspense. But I knew everything within a few chapters.

Can not fathom why the defense didn’t put on a single witness and failed to cross examine witnesses properly. It seems lazy to me. But he is so guilty he should have gotten death penalty. He planned these murders too much. It’s so calculated and monstrous.

Methodical killer

Oh wow this person was walking the planet collecting his victims , how revolting .
Those women were so much alike.
He got what he deserved .

Needs a good copy editor

The story itself was fascinating and the reader was pretty good. But you might think he would look into the correct pronunciation of Estes Park as a jumping off point. There were also at least two other obvious errors that I noticed - there’s no such place as The University of Boulder and it’s Highlands Ranch not Highlands Point. The errors that I noticed make me question the effort that the author put into fact checking the story since place names are pretty easy to verify. Unfortunately I wouldn’t feel comfortable saying that this is an accurate account of the story based on the sloppy editing and seemingly hasty writing.

Excellent

Well-written and expertly read. I'd love a list of books performed by this narrator. He made the the story enjoyable.

repeat repeat repeat

I don't mind a true crime telling the story from different views, the attorney, the parents, the cops, but when they all get repeated several times in the book I'm sick of it
