About this listen

Praying for a happy ending, friends and family stood by Laci's grieving husband Scott. Four months later, Laci's decomposed body was found in the murky waters of San Francisco Bay. The body of her child had washed ashore about a mile away, after a possible "coffin birth." It was a sad closure to an exhaustive search, and a grim end to a marriage that by all accounts had appeared to be perfect.

Scott Peterson's behavior had cast a mysterious shadow over the death of his pregnant wife: his alibi on the day of the disappearance was questionable; he admitted to an affair with another woman; and when he was finally charged with capital murder, he had altered his appearance. Almost immediately, the media condemned Scott, even though he maintains his innocence. Is Scott Peterson a victim of circumstantial evidence? Despite the state attorney general's claim of a "slam dunk," the case that has gripped the nation is much more complex, and is yielding even more questions, doubts, accusations, and shocking revelations.

A few powerful moments…

This book had a few powerful moments, but it was, mostly, a technical play-by-play of the court proceedings. There were a few strategic details of the defense and prosecution I hadn’t heard. It was interesting to learn that the defense tried to put a gag order on Amber Frey, but it was argued that if we start doing that, people won’t want to come forward with information if they can’t respond to defamation, in the press. However, it was hard to sustain interest in the book, at many points, as I’d heard most of the facts of the case already. From the title, I was hoping we would get to know Laci. The victim is who makes a True Crime case into a human interest story, for people like me. Laci’s sweet face, youthful anticipation of motherhood and all the great things she envisioned in her future, and joi de vive is what got the world’s attention. I wanted to learn more about her life, and who she was. However, I have learned more about Laci from network TV shows, much less other books.

Meh

I was disappointed in this book, just a regurgitation of known facts. Nothing new. Narrator OK.

I remember when tut his story broke on the news.

It was the day before Christmas and I couldn't imagine what her poor mother was going through as I have two daughters myself and then a few months later when the bodies washed up I was horrified to learn the condition in weed which they were found...this was an extremely intense look into tut his case...thank-you.

OK Book

To serious, wanted more back story. Not for someone who wants a more emotional take on the case

An inside look @ the story that gripped our Nation

The Laci Peterson murder was one of the most public trials I remember watching. This book gives a good inside look at the behind the scenes details from before she went missing to the trial of her husband that followed. The narrator is fantastic and really holds your attention. You can feel the emotions of those involved in the story.

Excellent book

Written from the perspective of a neutral third party who presented the facts without the bias of being a family member. Both viewpoints are very valued and important, but this book steps you back and you learn about this terrible man (Alex) and how evil he, and the men in his family who predeceased him were and are. Very evil, cunning and vicious men who worshipped money.

Nothing New Here

Laci was originally released December 7, 2003, and now the audible version gets released some 14 years later on November 23, 2017, without one single update. Pointless.
In all fairness to the author I have read every published book about this case as I could not get my mind around it. I really was hoping that 'Laci' would have some updates but no luck.

Same old, same old. On the plus side Malcolm Hillartner gives an excellent performance.

No matter how many times I read this... :(

every time I hear this story it is just unbelievable and heart wrenching. so senseless and so many victims born by one man's greed and selfishness.
