About this listen

One by one, three waterlogged suitcases were pulled from the Chesapeake Bay. In each were body parts of a man. In a forensics room, the truth was discovered: William McGuire had been horribly murdered and dismembered.

William and his loving wife, a registered nurse named Melanie, had just closed on their New Jersey dream home. Little did William know about the nightmare that was in store . . . . For Melanie had been involved in a long-term affair with a married doctor at the fertility clinic where she worked - and she had plans for the future that didn't include William.

Investigators believe that on April 29, 2004, Melanie first drugged her husband, then murdered him in cold blood. Three years after America witnessed the details of the suitcase incident unfold - on 48 Hours, Dateline NBC, and ABC Primetime, and in People magazine, among other news outlets - Melanie was convicted of first-degree murder and desecrating human remains. To Have and to Kill is the true story of a marriage that turned deadly . . . .

The story line is interesting but the narrator destroyed my listening pleasure, awful!! It was hard to get through that I just had to stop. A narrator can make or break a story.

WHY!

starts off with difficult to understand narration, and more than a few glitches in recording.....but once we got into the narrators rhythm, a tragic fascinating story overcomes the errors. melanie is a wicked narcissistic *itch, and I highly suspect her family helped her carry out this horrific crime.

Give it a few chapters

Great balance of facts and story telling. Appeared fair to all parties, even to those who probably didn’t deserve it.

Amazing account of a crazy murder.

The narrator chopped up sentences, pausing for no reason at random. His voice was grating with no change in inflection. On the positive side he had a British accent. The story itself was fascinating and well written and I would have to recommend this audiobook. It could have been 5 stars plus if not for the narrator.

Bad narrator

If we're going to pay these prices for a service that prides itself in being the premier service in audible books, the narrators need to be properly vetted and auditioned. This guy was abysmal.

Terrible narration. Good story

Great book. Great writer! I have read one or two more books by the same author and I want to continue reading books written by him. This is an unbelievable true crime story. Keeps you in suspense hoping for a good result. JS.

Sometimes people underestimate that detectives are smarter than they are.

The British narrator was wonderful to listen to. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire book.

Excellent

While this particular story is a very slow retelling of an extremely gruesome, horrific murder, it did hold my attention. There were words or parts that could have been left out and I don’t think the jest would have been lost. I will probably try to follow up with some documentaries.

Very slow
