Don't miss the NBC television series Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for The Bone Collector.

The first novel in the New York Times best-selling series featuring forensic detective Lincoln Rhyme - from the author of The Never Game.

Lincoln Rhyme was once a brilliant criminologist, a genius in the field of forensics - until an accident left him physically and emotionally shattered. But now a diabolical killer is challenging Rhyme to a terrifying and ingenious duel of wits. With police detective Amelia Sachs by his side, Rhyme must follow a labyrinth of clues that reaches back to a dark chapter in New York City’s past - and reach further into the darkness of the mind of a madman who won’t stop until he has stripped life down to the bone.

Critic reviews

“Lightning-paced...a breakneck thrill ride.” (The Wall Street Journal)

The Bone Collector is so dazzling, it makes your eyes water.” (The New York Times Book Review)

“The headlong narrative...never lets up, and there is plenty of genuine forensic knowledge in evidence. There are dramatic switcheroos up to the very last page, and a climactic battle to the death.” (Publishers Weekly)

Entertaining read

I found by kicking the book up to a higher listening speed the audible was a better read.

good story, horrible narration

I made myself endure the narrator because the overall story was very engaging. But the narrator was terrible. His voice fell into a high range almost monotone. He did try to do voices for some characters, but the overall story was told in one annoying voice. Will not continue the series if he is the narrator in the next books.

Excellent story

I truly enjoyed this first volume in the Lincoln Rhyme series! I wasn't crazy about the narrator though! I just felt he was trying to hard throughout the book, mane that distracted from my joy if listening to the book!
Overall I truly enjoyed hearing the foundation laid by this book for Sacks and Rhyme!

Good introduction to an interesting character

Oh where to start? I first became aware of The Bone Collector when I watched the Denzel Washington Angelina Jolie movie based on this novel, and as always seems to be the case the book is better.
I won't delve too deeply into the details of the story, the Audible blurb sums it up pretty nicely without the need for me to add anything to it. It is a very compelling story, especially the first time through.
My only issue with this is that the narrator isn't the greatest, he's not horrible, but at times his voice reminded me of a text to speech program, monotonous and disjointed but that could just be something that occurred during editing, though often times he makes it difficult to tell just which character is speaking at any given point because he tends to use the same "voice" for multiple characters.
This recording isn't outstanding by any means, but it does keep you engaged in the story.

Great Book but Hard to Listen too

I was very excited when I got this book, but that quickly went away as soon as I heard the narrators voice. It sounded very robotic. I couldn’t even tell the characters apart for the first half of the book. It was a very good story and had some really good twists, but I would rather of had Siri read the book to me than Connor O’Brien.

Oy vey...

The narration killed this audiobook. I recommend speeding it up if you’re planning on listening. Picking up a good old fashioned hard copy may be the way to go in this case.

Great novel, with wonderful plot

Overall the story was fantastic, but I had a very the speed of the narrators voice a few times because it it was so bland that it graded on my nerves a little bit. What’s interesting is when he varied his voice some of the other voices that he used were actually quite good.
But the story is the real king of this review, interesting in how you learn forensics exciting and how the story is laid out in fact each victim rescued or killed Brings a heart wrenching moment, so over and over again you are brought up and down. Like I said wonderful

Excellent

This is only my second Jeffery Deaver book I've read and both were exceedingly enjoyable. I would encourage anyone who enjoys crime novels to read this one. It was full of surprises and solved though brain power.

Conner O'Brian has an excellent story tellers voice. Between his reading of this story and the plot with a twist at the end it makes me hunger for the next book. To bad Audible only has an abridged version. Sorry but 5 hours of a 14 hour book just doesn't do for me.

Horrible narration

By far one of the worst audible narrations I have come across. This is a great book and a captivating story, but the monotone, nearly robotic narrator makes it impossible to engage in the story...I may have to just read this one on a paperback or a Kindle. What a shame.

Awful narration

I have listened to over half of the Rhyme novels prior to this book. It’s a good thing I didn’t buy this one earlier because narration was awful!
Stick to the paper or movie CD!
