About this listen

From The Book of Samson: "This is the story of my life, and it's not a happy one. If you wish to read about me, you're welcome to, but if you're looking for something to give you hope and joy, comfort and inspiration, then you had best leave off here straightaway and go find something else. My life has an abundance of frustration and pain, plus a fair bit of sex and lots of killing and broken bones, but it's got precious little hope and joy, comfort and inspiration. It's got some women in it, too, plus a wife. Dalila is the one you may have heard of, and a rare piece of work she was. You may think you know the story, but believe me, there's more."

From the author of the acclaimed and provocative novels Fallen and The Preservationist comes a tale about a man who believes he is touched by the hand of God then instructed by that God to slaughter his enemies. It is the story of "this worldly existence of men and brutes, desire and unkindness" and of the woman, Dalila, at the center of it all. In The Book of Samson, David Maine has created an unforgettable portrait of the Biblical figure, a unique and astonishing masterpiece that puts a face on a previously faceless icon.

"Wildly pleasurable." (Publishers Weekly)

I love Maine's books. He is witty, historically intuitive, darly humorous and rawly emotional as he plays the part of his "famous" person of choice telling their life story 1st person. This is a good book. I loved the confessional way he tells his story, exposes himself to ridicule and love, while being in the moment in the temple held captive waiting for his death. I hope Maine keeps the hits coming!

I enjoyed this book. Samson has always been one of my favorite biblical figures and hearing his story told from his side was enjoyable. Yes, there is a bit of sex, lots of blood and if these things offend you it's not for you. All that aside, it's not the bible story I read my boys when they were little but it's still a story that has a great lesson to be learned in it. Narrator is great too!

this is a R rated story not a nice little christain tale. Full of sex and lots of misuse of the story. Like i said it is mainly a storys full of sex and death and more sex. If you like story with lot of sex this is for you, if your looking for a uplifting Christian story, look elsewere.
