As the youngest bureau chief and head of the Chicago Police Department's Major Case Squad, Boone Drake seems to have it all under control. Only those closest to him know that just a few short years ago, he lost everything that mattered to him in a tragic accident. After years of healing, his life is back on track. He recently married a wonderful woman named Haeley, adopted her son, bought a beautiful home, and rediscovered his faith. But Boone can't fight the feeling that something is about to go terribly wrong...again.
When an all-too-personal case takes Boone to Beijing at a time when Haeley can least afford to let him go, Boone is forced to make a difficult choice. There he becomes enmeshed in a dangerous human-trafficking ring that takes him through the famed Hutong District's narrow streets, alleys, and hovels. Teamed with a former Liberation Army officer, Boone has one chance to pull off an elaborate sting and rescue a young boy before he disappears forever.

Would you listen to The Breakthrough again? Why?
Yes, because I think you can get more out of it the second time because you're not imaging what comes next. What other book might you compare The Breakthrough to and why?
Pretty much any of the Jeffery Deaver books. Because he makes the characters and places real. You feel like you know them.Which scene was your favorite?
Can't pick just one.If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A heart of faithAny additional comments?

What made the experience of listening to The Breakthrough the most enjoyable?
The most enjoyable aspect to listening to Breakthrough was the details and the action. Also the pace of the plot keeps the listener engaged. The two plot lines developed simultaneously and systematically weaving in and out. This technique gave the story a dynamism which made it hard to put down. One could visualize the action and the characters and emotionally react to the turns and twist of the detective story.Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite was Bone a chief of a specialize criminal unit. The writer gave policemen a life outside of the precinct and demonstrated the brotherhood of those who are engaged in life and death issues which face the law enforcer everyday. He had strong feelings and principals about the necessity of upholding the law, Yet, he had compassion for his wife's babysitter who naively allowed a stranger to take his adopted son.He is the model for all who serve the public.
Which scene was your favorite?
The scene which was one of my favorite was the ride in the back of the ambulance as Bone sat lightly holding his comatose wife"s. He was fighting breaking down and anxiety of not knowing if Cloe would live or die. He had to restrain his impulse to take charge and trust in the professionally trained ambulance attendance. They were patient and his best cop's friend wife prayed quietly. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The reunion of Bone's adopted son Maxx in the Chinese hotel in Beijing.Any additional comments?
This was my second reading and I enjoyed better than the first time I read it.Exciting
