Publisher's summary

Starting over isn't easy when an unexpected hero crashes her plans in this steamy and gripping new small-town enemies-to-lovers romance by Wall Street Journal best-selling author Nicole Snow.

My fresh start turned into a dumpster fire.

Awesome new job. Small town heaven. Friendly faces galore.

Then I strolled into my new home and found the unspeakable.

Just when I'm sure it can't get worse, I'm “rescued” by a man who makes me see red for miles.

Enter Lucas Graves.

A bossy grump with a badge who's sworn to keep me safe.

He rocks the scary-hot vibe, he reads too much, and he never misses a chance to give me crap for being a nerdy little cactus who mouths back.

Not the type of man I'd go for in my right mind.

Definitely not the type I should keep trading bruising kisses with.

Redhaven, North Carolina, has driven me insane.

Why else does my heart race when Lucas gets jealous and overprotective?

How could I think he'll ever share more than another reckless night?

He guards his own battered heart as fiercely as he watches over me.

It can't get more complicated.

Oh, but then it does.

There's a razor-thin line between heartbreak and hope with a broken protector.

He's so wrong for me I could scream.

But I'm not losing sleep over the very real danger I'm in.

I'm terrified that Lucas Graves might be the best thing that's ever happened—if he'd let us happen at all.

This big slice of feel-good small-town romance brings enemies to lovers fire, hilarious sweetness, heart-thumping suspense, and all the butterflies. Smile yourself silly as one big bossy lunk tries to keep his heart and his secrets from the headstrong new girl destined to make him whole.

Frustrating read

I am a Nicole Snow fan, but this female lead character frustrated the crap out of me. I don’t know what it was about her that just was so aggravating. to be clear it was not the narrator, she did an excellent job convey the overall tempo, angst and pressure. I’ve never quit on a book but I thought about it.

Heart warming, sexy, exciting

Great read. Amazing voice acting. They really bring it to life and give the characters such depth with their portrayals.

Good, but not quite what I expected.

The performance was fantastic, but there were parts of the story that made me uncomfortable. Kept me guessing on who the "bad guy" was til almost the end though.

Okay

I liked it there were somethings I felt were left unsettled. But mainly I felt parts of the book was too long and then the ending was too short.

Sexy And Suspenseful

I loved this very suspenseful romance. Great writing! The author keeps you guessing who the bad guy is right up to the end and even then you’re left wondering if there’s another accomplice. The heat and chemistry between Lucas and Delilah is off the charts hot. Also, the narrators do a fabulous job! This story is definitely worth reading or better yet listening to!

Not grumpy- not Foster

First- they act like the mmc is super grumpy- he’s not. He’s totally delightful.

My biggest complaint is that this is not remotely how foster care works. They don’t just take babies for no reason. Then keep them until they’re 18 with no contract or opportunities for the parents. The goal is reunification of baby and the parent. If she lost contact with her child, it’s because she wasn’t willing to go through the requirements and stopped contact of her own volition. Supposedly this mother did all these things like starting a business and changing her financial situation but they still wouldn’t give her baby back? Nah that’s not how it works. It doesn’t benefit the state to take a child, care for them indefinitely, refuse reunification when the parent has proven to be a safe and healthy place for the child. And they don’t just sever all contract and hide the identity of the parent from the child. In my state parents is infants get 5x a week visitation! Supervised visitation and it’s only for an hour or so. But a mother of a baby can see her baby 5x a week.

Not too bad

I liked the story and concept. I am all for strong and independent women. However there is strong and independent and there is just idiotic. And getting pissed off when your police boyfriend doesn’t reveal details to you about a case… yeah idiotic. And then there is stupidity at least she admits at one point to being stupid with her actions but I honestly can’t see any person with a lick of common sense doing some of those things.

DNF

My eyes rolled right out of my head with the absurdity, and nonchalant lack of self preservation the heroine dumbly exudes in the aftermath of an obvious pattern of murders. Just because you can write it as so, definitely doesn’t mean you should, DNF
