About this listen

Madness and incantations in the nightmares of poets. Vicious ancient cults in the mountains and swamps. A corpse city rising in the sea. After Professor Angell meets a sudden and mysterious end, Francis Thurston, while sorting through his uncle's papers, makes a fateful discovery that ties these malignant manifestations together. Taken together, what they awaken from the deep will, as Francis warns us, "Open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age."

Of the dozens of tales that comprise the mythos of H. P. Lovecraft, The Call of Cthulhu, first published in Weird Tales in 1928, is the cosmic core of his universe. Please enjoy this foreboding novella, and beware what dreams may come thereafter.

This production of The Call of Cthulhu is an official selection of the 2016 HEAR Now Festival.

The story is quite dramatic on its own, and doesn’t need the breathy, stuffed-nose narrators assistance in creating atmosphere. The narrator also has problems with pronunciation throughout. I wish I had picked a different production, as the story is fantastic.

Overly dramatic narration on a fantastic story

The narrator was great but he dosent pronounce the title charter “right”. I realize that many different people pronounce it different ways but that’s the only problem I have with it. Other than that I found that the narrator was so captivating and compelling.

Only One complaint

being old, it is in a little strange to listen to. But the performance.. the storytelling is just a lot of fun.

For its length it goes deep into details and really puts you on the edge of your seat.

Short but really good

I love this story, like many, I'm sure this is the one that people start out with when exploring the world of Lovecraft.

Classic Lovecraft

The narrator was good! I know this is an old story and it was a different time but I could not get myself to finish due to the racist undertones and vocabulary in this story.

Not for me...too racist

Felt the hype made it a bit overrated.

Racism in the story is blatant.

Kept calling it Cloolu...I found it distracting.
