About this listen

When you think on the mysterious, the uncanny, the unexplained - one name comes to mind: Houdini! Dark Adventure Radio Theatre celebrates Houdini’s enduring legacy with a special tale from Houdini himself as told by master storyteller H.P. Lovecraft. Journey with us back to a time before the war, as Houdini searches for his next great illusion in exotic Egypt. His quest to master the Orient’s mysteries leads him to temples deep beneath the desert sands, and into the clutches of fearsome Bedouins. Not even the great Houdini can escape the thrilling and horrifying secrets which have lurked for untold millennia under the pyramids in “Imprisoned with the Pharaohs”!

Novelty listen

Do not get this if you are looking for a great piece of literature. It's a fun adventure romp- campy and dated. Knowing that going in... who can resist a Houdini, master of self promotion, and Lovecraft, master of cosmic horror, mash-up?

Better than the original

This is better than the original in that it has modern sensibilities. I recommend it.

Fun With Houdini in Egypt

This is another excellent entry in the outstanding Dark Adventure Radio Theater series. This one is a bit different since we are following Harry Houdini and his wife during a thrilling adventure in Egypt. The production is outstanding as usual and the voice talent is simply superb. I have nearly all of these adventures and love them all!

One of the best titles in the library.

All I really want to say is that THIS performance (like many of the Society) is absolutely incredible. The performance just draws you in like you are with the group observing everything happening. It’s done so vividly. Honestly, most of The Society recordings are like that, but this is one of the best by far. The book goes on and instantly you are transported there. The actors and sound affects are top. You won’t be disappointed with this selection or any from the HP Lovecraft Historical Society audiobooks.

Such a fun episode!!!

Fans of the earlier episode of DART will definitely find this episode to be different, but I enjoyed the change of pace. I typically like my Lovecraft dark, ominous, and serious, but this was something else. This was much more an adventurous episode; it felt like I was watching the Brendan Fraser "Mummy" movies which I also really enjoy. I wouldn't want ever episode to be like this but something about this really worked, great job HPLHS!

Epic and Atmospheric!

The HPLHS consistently outdoes itself, simply fantastic!

The best stylistic radio drama I've heard since originals from the 1930's. If you value radio perfection' I cannot recommend this more.

Love this series - this one could have been better…

Worth listening too, but by no means a true representation of how amazing other books in the series are. No spoilers, but they tried to be too clever at a point. Could have been so much more.
