A Standalone Billionaire, Marriage of Convenience Romance.

You want to know the secret to everlasting happiness?

Never fall in love.

That was the wisdom my father imparted to us James boys after our mom died, and it’s a piece of advice that’s served me well.

Until dear old Dad asks me for a favor over Sunday brunch. No big deal, right? I love making my old man happy. Except this “favor” is a lot more complicated than picking up his dry cleaning. Dad wants me to marry and provide a few heirs for the James empire, and he’s even done me the courtesy of handpicking my bride-to-be. Lucky me.

But if I’m being honest, I’ve grown tired of the endless cycle of dating, the constant small talk, and the ever-shrinking pool of women I haven’t already invited for a sleepover.

I’m a lawyer, so contracts are kind of my thing. And that’s all marriage really is—a contract negotiated between two parties. What could possibly go wrong?

Enter Melanie Edison, the five-foot-four brunette with curves in ALL the right places. A veterinary nurse with the smartest mouth I’ve ever heard. And I have more fun not dating her than I did dating any woman before, even with Melanie’s absurd no-sex-before-marriage rule.

But when our business arrangement becomes so much more, I end up breaking my most important rule. And that’s when it all goes to hell.

I have no idea how we can ever repair the damage that’s been done. I’m not even sure I want to. And maybe going back to my old life won’t be so hard.

Except it’s too late. I broke my rule.

And she broke me.

Another amazing story

The James Brothers are all going to give us an amazing adventure. I loved Nathan’s story with Mel and how their individual sorrows shaped them to who they are. Although they experience a rough time, their love always endured. And I love Aaron as the male voice. He’s the very best!

BROKEN had me in a CHOKEHOLD 😮‍💨

I opted for the audiobook, as duel narration is my love language especially when Aaron Shedlock is involved 🤤

I consider myself open when it comes to 🌶️ books. I don’t get too caught up in specific tropes but do prefer M/F relationships, an engaging plot, character development and a filthy mouthed MMC. That said, BROKEN checked all the boxes for me 😍

While Nathan James is a billionaire, I appreciated that the Melanie Edison was NOT some damsel in distress. Yes, her family’s prominence was fading but she was no stranger to high-society. Unlike her mother and brother, who drained and misappropriated funds from the family business, Mel opted for a fulfilling career as a veterinary nurse. Her only non-negotiable, with Nathan re their arranged marriage, was not having to give up her career, despite their billionaire status. I found this modern and refreshing, which, perhaps, was needed given that Melanie was dominated by Nathan in just about every other aspect 😮‍💨

The juxtaposition of dominance and endearment is what made this an absolutely tail-wagger for me. The James father and sons idolized Mama James (her memory), upheld family traditions (Sunday supper / NYE), believed in the sanctity of marriage and had strong desires to be dads. When

Not what I expected.

I'm going to listen to every book that he reads. *melt* They both did a great job.

The book itself made me laugh, scream, clench, and scream. I didn't see it going the way it went and I loved it. It was everything you expect from the outlandish millionaire marriage of convenience trope. I definitely count this entire trope as a guilty pleasure read for me.

Trigger warning for the miscarriage. That was heart wrenching. I do wish I had been more prepared for that.

Fantastic book, by an incredible writer.

Aaron and Elena Blew it out of the water!!

I am so happy to have more Sadie Kincaid stories in my ears, she has become a quick favorite for me. This Marriage of Convenience story follows Melanie Edison, a curvy veterinarian nurse, and Nathan James, a tough as nails lawyer and love’em and leave’em forever bachelor. To make both families happy, they agree, begrudgingly, to an arranged marriage where they must produce a child in the first year. But while they are being fake married, they start to have real feelings. While they are focusing on each other, there are some people in the background pulling strings to unravel the whole agreement. This story really had so many ups, downs, ins, outs, side to sides and loop the loops, it was all over the place in the most amazing way. The chemistry written between the two characters could really be felt from page one. I really enjoyed that Nathan, being the billionaire he is, didn’t mind that Melanie WANTED to work and for the most part let her. He didn’t do that whole “I’m rich you don’t have to work” thing. And even though they were married, he really did everything he could to woo her completely. They took the marriage seriously no matter how it came to be.

This story was narrated by Elena Wolfe and Aaron Shedlock, both are veteran narrators for me, and they knocked it out of the park just like I knew they would. They both complement each other so well and brought the characters to life in this Duet narrated performance. I loved it and I want to hear more of this story, author and narrator duo.

Oh, how I love Sadie Kincaides writing.

Oh, how I love Sadie Kincaides writing.
Broken was no extension to it.
I fell hard and fast for Melanie and Nathan’s characters.
Their love story was full of ups, and downs, Sexy as heck heat, with off-the-charts chemistry.  I loved it all.

I will say the drama near the end had me wanting to throw my iPhone out the window at a time.s

The performances by Elena Wolfe are outstanding.
I did enjoy Aaron Shedlock’s narration. But I had one issue. That was with the pronunciation of the word “corazón”.  The word was said several times during the audiobook. With it being said correctly at times and other times sounds like “cortisone” as in the cortisone cream.
Sorry, it may be my picky issue coming from the Spanish side of me.
