About this listen

The Illustrated Edition of the hilarious fantasy, co-written by Terry Pratchett, at age seventeen, and Terry Pratchett, at age forty-three

In the beginning, there was nothing but endless flatness. Then came the Carpet....

Now, the Carpet is home to many different tribes and peoples, and a new story: the story of Fray, sweeping a trail of destruction across the Carpet; the story of power-hungry mouls - and of two Munrung brothers who set out on an adventure to end all adventures when their village is flattened. It's a story that will come to a terrible end if someone doesn't do something about it.

I thought because this was his 1st book I had already read it years ago. however I must have missed it. loved the inclusion of the original serial stories at the dnd.

My kindergartener has listened to this at least six times this summer, and I'm always happy to listen along--a testament to both the writing and the performance. The characters are entertaining and the story includes plenty of (not-too-scary) peril and battles and adventure to keep young listeners enthralled. But the story also spurs you to think of the world from a new perspective (literally, as you imagine the tiny world of the Carpet People), and the world you know is illuminated in new ways. Pratchett's humor works on several levels, and I find myself hoping that with each time he listens, my son picks up on new levels of meaning and deeper insights into human interaction and the nature of history as it is recorded/passed on to future generations.

Adventure that raises deeper questions
