About this listen

Meet Carrie Bradshaw before ‘Sex and the City!’

The Carrie Diaries is the coming-of-age story of one of the most iconic characters of our generation.

Before Sex and the City, Carrie Bradshaw was a small town girl who knew she wanted more. She's ready for real life to start, but first she must navigate her senior year of high school. Up until now, Carrie and her friends have been inseparable. Then Sebastian Kydd comes into the picture, and a friend's betrayal makes her question everything.
With an unforgettable cast of characters, The Carrie Diaries is the story of how a regular girl learns to think for herself, and evolves into a sharp, insightful writer. Readers will learn about her family background, how she found her writing voice, and the indelible impression her early friendships and relationships left on her. Through adventures both audacious and poignant, we'll see what brings Carrie to her beloved New York City, where her new life begins.

good

Would you consider the audio edition of The Carrie Diaries to be better than the print version?

The book was a good listen, performance great, it doesn't have much to do with the Carrie Bradshaw we know and love from Sex and the City, didnt see a whole lot of connection but still entertaining

Guilty pleasure

Would you try another book from Candace Bushnell and/or Sarah Drew?

Yes

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

3 1/2 stars. A totally guilty pleasure book for me. Fans of Sex & the City will enjoy this book.

The Carrie Diaries follows Carrie Bradshaw during her senior year of high school. She's exploring her path as a writer and a column in the high school paper helps her land her ultimate dream summer.

There is, of course, a boyfriend who gives her fits and causes her to constantly question herself as so many girls that age do. And there are her friends. The friends that have been friends for a long time until one of them does something completely unforgivable.

It was nice to find out where Carrie came from and learn about her family but I wanted more about her relationship with her father and her sisters. One of her sisters does get herself into some trouble.

I'm sure someone will object to the drinking and smoking in this book. It takes place in 1982 and 1983 when drinking was still legal for 18 year olds.

Candace Bushnell definitely left this open for a sequel and I'll definitely read one if it comes out.

Insufferable Naration

I enjoy Candace Bushnell as an author and was looking forward to this book.
I was unable to get past the first 15 minutes, after which I found the high pitched, silly voice of the narator unbearable. I have enjoyed Audible's top narators such as Humphrey Bower and Deidre Rubenstein. The timbre and variation in their voices make listening a joy.
