Perry Mason is dining peacefully at the Golden Goose cafe when he receives a mysterious phone call. The frantic woman on the other end of the line is desperate to retain Mason's services, but suddenly vanishes during their cryptic phone conversation.

The only clues: a newspaper clipping about a blackmail case, and the combination to a safe scrawled on a scrap of paper. The case: a tangled web indeed, strung between an eccentric widower with something to hide, a sexy cigarette girl selling with plenty to cry about, a real-estate broker with his own home on the selling block, a wife, a lover, and too many loose ends. The common denominator: murder, of course....

Another fascinating tale woven by Erle Stanley Gardener. A package of money arrived to Perry Mason at the Golden Goose establishment. A phone call telling him what to do with it, but the woman on the other end would not identify himself. Sometime later 2 deaths occurred. One was murdered and the second one was found in a fire. Are they related to each other? The second one was thought that the man was murdered by his wife.

Perry Mason is attempting to find out who the client is. Who sent him money? Was it the woman who was accused of murdering her husband? She was keeping silent. Her mom wanted Mason to represent her. Mason wanted the woman to tell him the truth and she still would not talk. Not even at the last few minutes of court. Perry Mason figured everything out, Lieutenant Tragg was even helpful.

Very well written, and it kept me listening as usual.

The woman who wouldn’t say a thing!

Narrator was very good. Story as always is fantastic. Always love the courtroom scenes it is always a twist to the final reveal by the detective, or in this case the lawyer. I will never hesitate to recommend Erle Stanley Gardner.

Perry Mason brilliant as always.

Enjoyable with 1 notable exception. I refused to accept the narrator’s female voices- and no one ever could her his Adele’s & not cringe

A corkscrew of a mystery
