Publisher's summary

A government aide kidnapped, a French diplomat murdered, a killer to uncover…

When mystery writer Marius Quin and his sleuthing partner Lady Bella Montague are hired by a secretive stranger to find a missing civil servant, they immediately set to work. Ernest Castleton was taken at gunpoint days earlier, but with the help of his distraught fiancée, Marius and Bella uncover a vital clue. Ernest hid a cryptic letter in the British Museum, and it sends the intrepid duo on a trail that stretches from the center of London all the way to the English coast.

The investigation takes on a new twist when they arrive at the home of the British Foreign Secretary only to find a French diplomat murdered in the Grand Hall of the palatial property…

But who pushed Monsieur Rochefort to his death, and what does it have to do with Ernest Castleton’s disappearance? Marius and Bella must choose from a nefarious spy, a double-dealing diplomat, and any number of spoilt aristocrats if they wish to catch the killer. With the clock ticking and only twenty-four hours left before the suspects disperse, they must call upon their every skill to stop more innocent people from dying…

A fast, fresh and fun 1920s murder mystery which combines the feel of a classic spy novel with a twisting whodunit, The Castleton Affair will leave you guessing until the very last chapter.

Great story.

I’m really enjoying the Marius Quinn series and have listened to all 3. They may be the best book series BB has conceived.

I was a bit shocked to hear the narrator mispronounce the word bowl but it made me laugh so I can’t ding him for it. The setting is a grand dining room and the narrator says “…as he briskly rubbed his hands together over his bowel” Hilarious!

Even better than the first two of the series….

The series gets even better with this third entry. The mystery delves into international intrigue and secret societies a bit, reminiscent of some that Golden Age authors wrote, such as The Secret Adversary and The Sign of Four by Agatha Christie. Another lesser known author who did so in several of her books was Patricia Wentworth. In The Astonishing Adventure of Jane Smith, a young woman somewhat recklessly agrees to an adventure with such an organization. It is great fun, though certainly not as funny as BB’s version. I am recovering from knee replacement surgery, and these books have been a great distraction from the discomfort and sometimes outright pain. While listening late one night on my AirPods, I began laughing out loud at the “saucepan song,” waking up my husband. It was a little hard to explain out of context.
Mr. Blagden provided his usual outstanding narration. The only sad part is that the story ended, and I must wait until the next audiobook is released. I highly recommend this series, as well as the Lord Edgington series. (I have not begun the Izzy Palmer series as yet). Enjoy!

Great!

I do enjoy this series, the story line, Marius and Bella and the supporting characters. I do wish Marius would just tell Bella how he feels though......hopefully in the future! I like George Blagden's narration as well!

A twist in the story.

I am not good at writing reviews. Think I suffer from writers block. but I want to because I love all your books and can’t wait for the next one to come. Really liked all the different hunt for clues in the library, etc and each clue leading to another. a page turner for sure!
