Publisher's summary

When an affluent railcar owner disappears with millions of dollars belonging to Moose County investors, the international police launch an intense investigation to find the fugitive. But journalist detective Jim Qwilleran and his feline crime-busters find a mystery to unravel that is closer to home: Who blew the whistle on the embezzler — and why?

Qwill goes full steam ahead to solve the puzzle before tragedy occurs, but the case is complicated by a train wreck on the main line and a murder in a railroad tavern. With the help of Koko and Yum Yum, Qwill is about to prove that the police are on the wrong track.

Narration

There was a problem with the narration at one point. It plays a part that isn't supposed to come until later. It doesn't give anything away but it's kind of annoying.

George Guidall and Koko Belong Together

A wonderful story... much minutiae about trains, A Mid Summer’s Night Dream and owls. Wish Audible would carry the entire series beginning with the first : The Cat Who Could Read Backwards and then The cat Who Ate Modern Danish and on. George Guidall brings the series to life as he does with everything he reads. He is the best.

RELAXING FUN

From time to time I enjoy taking a literary trip to the world of Jim Quilleran. That world is an unlikely place. It's a small town, several hundred miles from the nearest urban center. The crime rate is low, traffic gridlock doesn't exist, there are good restaurants, an active community theater, a resident millionaire who prefers to share his fortune with the community and two ageless Siamese cats, one of whom may have psychic powers.

Narrator George Guidall does a superb job. I love the tone of his voice, his diction is excellent, and he seems to hit just the right note with character voices.

I listen to these books when I want to relax. I often select them when I want to listen to a book while falling asleep. When I was a child (many years ago), I loved being "read to sleep" and had favorite stories for that purpose. The "Cat Who" books are my adult version of those favorites.

For me this is one of the better books in the series. There are several good mysteries going on, and the introduction of a likeable new character who appears in later books.

The cats play a significant role in the story. If you dislike cats, you may find "Koko" and "Yum Yum" irritating. If you prefer very "realistic" stories, you may find the entire book annoying.

However, if you want to relaxing listen that takes place in an idealistic rural setting, this book is a good choice.

Didn't disappoint

I was looking for a mystery novel that wouldn't be too heavy and would be clean - this fit the bill! A little slow getting started, but then very engaging the rest of the book. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Delightful Tail

Lillian Jackson Braun as is her wont has spun another delightful tale using our favorite human and feline team of mystery collaborators, James Qwilleran, Koko and Yum-Yum. George Guidall has done his usual outstanding job of entertaining us with his many voiced narration. If you like cozy mysteries, be sure to listen to this one.

Braun's stories are always cute.

A nice listen for airplanes, trips, and the like. Nicely narrated and in the same clever manner as are her other stories.

Catastic

The storyline was very informative and and the characters were fleshed out well. I like that some of the bad guys get punished and some don't. I love the narrator. The characters come alive when he speaks their parts.

One of Lilian Jackson's best "Cat Who"

The constant twist and turns are amazing to the end. Ms Jackson is a master of leading you through the story to the very end when all is revealed. Her KoKo clues seem unrelated going along the way, I think he's doing some arrogant cat attitude . When all the clues are given through the story they seem vague. At the end when shown all togetherI slap my head thinking I need to pay closer attention to each paragragh
