Excellent read....

I really enjoyed this book. Lots of twists and turns, drama and intrigue. There should be a part 2.

Different perspective on an old presumption

This will be short and sweet, typing on my phone. Absolutely enjoyed this book. Kept grabbing my phone to continue listening, even while outside. It is not predictable and it is not a bodice ripper. The tale stands on its own with. a unique look at Catherine Howard and an alternative story. . Treat yourself and have a listen. I'm off to book #2!

Love Tudor History

Fascinating story line!

You can almost believe it is true, all woven together with history. Great transition from present to past. And then tying up everything. Can hardly wait to start next book.

Great imaginative world

This spin in the Victorian Henry the VIII Era really gets your mind thinking. It vividly brings to the foreground the roles and few options available to women even those from powerful families. Romance novels are always so keen to romantize and gloss over the real challenges women had to simply accept and overcome. This book while not even close to a romance book does bring forward, what we in the model age, would consider the very backwards thinking of the roles between men and women. I appreciate the time research this authauthor took to get some critcal and not so critical historical notes correct. This really gave the story enough truth while weaving her creative license so the reader is entrapped in a wonderful mystery. Even though I was able to guess a few things would happen I'm left wanting to know more because, while this chapter may be closed, the story is just getting started. I'm on the the next book in the series!

Surprisingly Brilliant

I really enjoyed this book. Thinking it was like most in this genre (which I love), it became unexpectedly enthralling. The navigation thru the story as well as the excellent narration puts this in one of my most entertaining reads. If you are a fan of the Tudor era, I highly recommend this gem of a tale and can't wait to read the next.

A fun historical what if.

I really enjoyed this story. Far fetched? Yep. But then, so much of legit Tudor history seems far fetched, so why not?

I’m excited to start the second book.

great read

i didn't think i would enjoy this book as i am more into psychological thrillers, however i enjoyed this book. i was not a fan through part one or two but by part three i was sucked in. the narrator is a great performer you would almost assume there is more than one reader. I've already bought the second book in the series and cannot wait to get started!

Compelling from the outset

When my sister recommended this book, she warned me it looked like a bodice ripper, but said not to be fooled, that it was excellent. I'm glad I listened to her because this book has it all. Murder, conspiracy, history, betrayal, insanity, it's all here, wrapped in a beautiful narration by Emma Gregory. I just purchased the next two in the series and cannot wait to listen to them. Alexandra Walsh has woven together fact with fiction and told the tale so cleverly one finds it difficult to stop. Just wonderful.
As a long time Audible listener, I rarely write reviews but this book is so good!
