About this listen

Goshen Cemetery lay quiet and peaceful under a benevolent spring sky. Darcy Campbell and her mother, Flora Tucker, had no inkling that in a few moments, the scene would change and they would face a horror on the ground and a threat from above beyond their imaginations. Becoming entangled in a centuries-old legend, being targeted by a group of ruthless men, and discovering a long-lost love were not in Darcy's plans when she returned to her birth place, Levi, Oklahoma. She merely wanted to soak up the peace of her mother's home and try to heal the wounds left from her husband's death. Fate, however, had other plans for Darcy and Flora.

CHARMING CHARACTERS, DELIGHTFUL SUSPENSEFUL LISTEN

I loved these ladies - daughter and mother, Darcy and Flora, both widows and both with real spunk, strength and character. Their world is very clear and fresh. It's a great mystery and great personal development as well. Terrific listen. I highly recommend.

Great start to this series

I love these kind of stories with women sleuths and the fact that it takes place in m home state of Oklahoma makes it even better. I enjoyed the telling of this story very much. Darcy and her mother Flora are 2 strong and amazing women. It broke my heart to learn Ben’s story and learn the fate of both he and his daughter being killed over greed. Not surprising there. I like the way this story ended and thought it was very respectful to Ben. I was given this copy in exchange for a voluntarily unbiased review.

Cosy Christian Mystery

This is a great mystery and the main characters are Christians. It is not overly preachy but just thankful. The mystery was very well written! I have really enjoyed this audiobook and recommend it to anyone that like Cozy Mysteries.

I was given a copy of this audiobook in return for my honest opinion

If a murder can be lovely that’s what the story was.

A Darcy & Flora Cozy Mystery, The Cemetery Club Book 1 is a clever told story told in a clean and old Fashion way

There is no course language, no sex, and violence is kept to the basics.

I enjoyed how the story is written and the characters. As they are brought to life by the authors.

Narrated by Kelley Hazen who gave each character having their own unique voice. At first I was unsure about her voice, but quickly settled in and enjoy the story.

I suggest that you listen to Kelley‘s voice before getting the audio book. I listen to the audiobook on 1.4 speed.

Loved it!!!

I just loved the strong sassy, but proper Southern women. And Flora’s strong faith in God was inspiring. Highly recommend! Ready for more mystery and adventure with Darcy and Flora!

stupidity

Is there anything you would change about this book?

maybe this "investigative reporter" could be a little less of a moron

Would you be willing to try another book from Blanche Day Manos and Barbara Burgess ? Why or why not?

maybe if the main character got a little smarter

Did Kelley Hazen do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

yes

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

probably not

Any additional comments?

I can't stand stupidity in characters that are supposedly intelligent. "oh, no, can't call 911. let me look around, put my finger prints all over; possibly use up someone's last few minutes of life etc, etc. I could go on and on. DON"T BE SO STUPID WHEN YOU ALREADY KNOW PEOPLE ARE BEING KILLED, YOU IDIOT. are you sure she didn't just sell newspapers on the corner?

The series improves with the next one

I have to admit up front I listened to book 2 before I listened to this one and I have to say if I had listened to this one first I wouldn’t have continued the series. The mystery started with a bang but then it hit the slow motion button and just dragged on. The final ending of the book went on and on too the point I almost starting rooting for the bad guy.

I got to the point where I needed an escape from Darcy’s thoughts because I really didn’t care. Like other reviewers I found the Christian overtones a little too much in this one and at some points very hypocritical. I will give an example – Flora’s number one rule is honesty yet throughout the book her and Darcy do not tell the truth to the police when questioned. I just didn’t like this. They went on about how they wished the sheriff would catch the character yet they were holding back extremely critical information.

I don’t know if I am spoiled by Michelle Babb’s narration in Book 2 but the narrator in this one just didn’t do it for me. I couldn’t find a distinct voice for the characters in the narration that I did from Book 2. This isn’t all the narrators fault – this book is more in Darcy’s head than the next book.
