Publisher's summary
Partying too much, picking fights with her Mom...Holly's senior year of high school has become a bit of a mess. She has no idea what she wants to do next year, and she's sick of the pressure to have a plan. When she's shipped off to spend some time in Chicago with her Aunt Miranda, she starts to feel more like herself.
But, Holly's about to have bigger problems. The world is on the brink of a viral outbreak that will change the way humans live for years to come. It begins in all the major cities. People are changing into crazed animals, impervious to pain. Nobody knows why.
For those who want a peek at what the original outbreak from Wilders looked like for those experiencing it. Also for anybody who enjoys a good story with some pulse pounding moments. Set a decade before the events of Wilders, and featuring an entirely different set of characters, this prequel can be enjoyed before or after Wilders.

Tess McBray was dying. The solstice syndrome had no cure, and she resigned herself to an early grave. But just when she gave up on survival, all her symptoms mysteriously disappeared. All but one symptom, anyway. Something is wrong with Tess’ hands. They absorb any material they touch, and her skin turns to wood, steel, or concrete. It doesn’t take this comic book obsessed 21-year-old long to figure out what’s going on: somehow, she’s developed super powers. And she’s not the only one; across the country, people are coming forward and sharing their gifts with the world.

Great beginnings
Super fast paced and a quick read. Great twist at the end. The world is changing and this is the beginning of what could be the end.
Really enjoyed it. Narration was excellent as well.

Awesome!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
The Change serves as a prequel to Wilders, giving the backstory of how the world was initially affected by the outbreak. Although it follows a different set of characters, I still felt attached to them and the relationship dynamics. The plot moved quickly, and the tension surrounding each possibility were heightened having read Wilders beforehand and knowing what was going on. I love when authors aren't afraid to kill off some characters and I love when romantic relationships aren't cheesy and aren't the focal point in dire situations.
Liz Brand, as previously stated in other reviews of books she's narrated, was fantastic, giving a true and honest voice to Holly as well as the other characters. She was a perfect fit!

A Story of the Beginning
'The Change' is a stand-alone prequel to the 'Wilders' series. Told from a teen girl's point-of-view, we see through her eyes what is happening in Chicago at the start of the violence.
This short prequel has lots of action and suspense, along with a tiny bit of horror, while we find out how the 'wilder' outbreak affects a large city. Cass Kim has written a solid thrill ride of a story. Liz Brand's narration will draw you right into the drama and tension of the situation. This is a great short listen for any fan of apoc and post-apoc stories.
I was given a free review copy of this audiobook, after requesting it from the author. I'm now leaving a voluntary review.

An engrossing prequel to Wilders!!
The Change, A prequel to Wilders by Cass Kim was great! Although I wish it was longer just because I was enjoying the story so much, The CHange does a great job of letting the reader/listener experience the initial outbreak of the virus that creates the Wilders through Holly's eyes, while she is in Chicago visiting her aunt. Like I said, I would have happily listened to more of Holly's story, but it was good just as is! I'd recommend this series to anyone. Now I just need to binge the last book of the series!
Liz Brand once again did a great job narrating this prequel. She always brings life and emotion to the characters and it's easy to get drawn in. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

Prequel to The Wilders
This book is supposed to be for teens or young adults but it is for anybody who enjoys Dystopian. The main character is Holly a teenager visiting with Aunt Miranda in Chicago while parents are on a cruise. While on her way to Aunt’s restaurant her belongings are stolen and meets up with Luke who gets her to the restaurant when the action occurs stating everyone was told to stay indoors as people were going crazy supposable drug induced which turns out to be the virus. Enjoyed the characters including June and Jeffers, only complaint it was short wanted more. Recommend listening to The Wilders. Spooky could be a possible Real Tale
This story could be a situation that could actually happen. This really makes a person look a bit deeper into protection, security, and safety. I will on to listen to the next book to see where it leads. Narrator did a good job bringing the characters and situation to life.

The Change
This was a good short book involving a "drug" that seems to be changing people into monsters. Holly is spending time with her aunt Miranda in Chicago while her parents go on a cruise. In typical teenage fashion, she isn't too happy about being treated like a child. She is definitely not prepared for the horrors that await her when a strange outbreak causes people to start turning into monsters intent on killing people.
The story was well-written, with relatable characters and just enough action to keep the reader's interest. The narrator did a good job and added a lot to the story.

Good start to a series
This was a scary good beginning. At first I didn't think I was going to like it because the main character was an unlikable teen. By the end I was wanting more, as a short prequel it wasn't nearly enough. Now I must read the series. The narration was excellent.
