Publisher's summary

From the New York Times bestselling author of Never Have I Ever comes the hair-raising story of a mother who moves herself and her daughter across the country to escape a dangerous stalker— but she can’t keep herself and her daughter safe from a monster she can’t identify

HIS GAME. HIS RULES. HER LIFE.

It started with the letters…

For actress Meribel Mills, disturbing fan mail is part of the price of fame. So when she starts getting creepy letters written in fruit-scented marker she’s mostly unfazed. But there’s something different about Marker Man…

He’s been in her home…

Meribel’s sheets smell of unfamiliar cologne, and objects are changing places inside her house. While the police insist that stalkers hardly ever escalate to violence, Meribel has played the dead girl one too many times on TV to risk becoming her in real life. She and her daughter move from Los Angeles to Atlanta for a fresh start—but no distance is great enough.

He’s watching her…

Years of being in front of a camera have given Meribel a superpower—she can feel eyes on her, and someone definitely has her in their sights. Could Marker Man have followed her all the way across the country? Suddenly, every man in her life is a suspect and Meribel finds herself in the fight of her life, desperate to protect those she loves as danger closes in from all sides.

If he can't have her, no one can.

Finished in one day!

Joshilyn Jackson never disappoints. The way she uses language and character development make this so much more textured and intriguing than your typical domestic suspense. I especially love that she narrates the main character’s voice and her daughter narrates the main character’s daughter. They both did an excellent job.

I’m I the only one that can’t tolerate that voice!

I enjoy Joshilyn Jackson’s books. She writes a great story!! BUT WHY does she have to always be the narrator. Her voice is very cringey. She sounds Like a 14 year old girl with nasal congestion. And where the character tries to be sexy? No. Please get someone else to do the audiobooks.

Compelling story

I love all of JJs books. I love a mystery involving complex humans. This one, while not my favorite, did not disappoint.

Whoever gave this less than 5 ⭐s is dumb

If you like books with suspense, originality, creativity and a story that seems luxurious compared to 99% of the fluff out there, this is it!

Holy heart palpitations though if you're a Mama like me and can't help but picture your kid every time a book/tv show/ movie vaguely includes a child in possible peril. Like, have to take a break and come back later regretting coffee #3 kind of suspense with this one! The best kind of suspense 🦄🌈🙈

(*No spoilers but of course, the kids are fine in the end, or I'd have given this 1⭐ for sure and JJ wouldn't do that to us anyway!)

Not my favorite from this author

Not my favorite or her best, but very enjoyable and excellently narrated. Would recommend as a fun summer read.

Too long

Too much unnecessary details; didn’t really wrap up well. Put good performance by several people

Impressed, as always

I've been an avid reader of Joshilyn Jackson since stumbling across The Girl Who Stopped Swimming as part of a random library haul. I then scrambled to soak up as much of her content as was available and have purchased every book since, proudly displaying my collection, and referring every one who will listen to her brilliant story telling.

This latest creation could not come soon enough, and once it was finally available- did not disappoint .

The set up for this story was done quite well and the suspense kept me up way later than it should have. No spoilers here- but if you want a fast paced thriller with strong interpersonal relationships amongst its well- developed characters- you have got to give this one a go. Then- take my advice and go get everything else this woman has put her voice into. I've yet to find a single work that was less than perfect.

Stop! And read this book!

Hands down the BEST joshilyn Jackson book I have listened to. In the middle of the book I thought I knew who marker man was but somehow after reading countless thrillers and mysteries I was shocked and surprised. No one is who you think they are. Honor, however is the best character. The author did her research and IMO got it. My son has autism and I for sure believed Honor did too. It wasn’t tacky, like some people who just miss the mark when it comes to children with special needs. This book is perfection from beginning to end. I can’t wait to see what she writes next. I’ll be first in line!

Disappointing

I was so excited to see a new Joshilyn Jackson book, I've listened to all her books and loved — this was not the best. The Cooper storyline was just so random. It was like parallel stories that were not connected. It also felt like it ended abruptly, leaving me with many questions.
