About this listen

Miss Mildred Percy inherits a dragon.

Ah, but we’ve already got ahead of ourselves…

Miss Mildred Percy is a spinster. She does not dance, she has long stopped dreaming, and she certainly does not have adventures. That is, until her great uncle has the audacity to leave her an inheritance, one that includes a dragon’s egg.

The egg—as eggs are wont to do—decides to hatch, and Miss Mildred Percy is suddenly thrust out of the role of “spinster and general wallflower” and into the unprecedented position of “spinster and keeper of dragons.”

But England has not seen a dragon since…well, ever. And now Mildred must contend with raising a dragon (that should not exist), kindling a romance (with a humble vicar), and embarking on an adventure she never thought could be hers for the taking.

Delightfully cute cozy story.

This is a delightfully cute cozy story about a spinster in Edwardian England whose lived her entire life as a shadow person to her domineering younger sister. Currently living as a nurse maid and tutor to her sisters kids, in her sister's house. And due to circumstances she inherited some of her uncle's possessions including a Dragon egg... and as the newly hatched baby Dragon grows and spreads his wings she's emboldened enough to spread her's too.
Zara Ramm absolutely caught the flavor of the time period and of Maud Percy as she narrated this story.

I love this narrator

I could listen to her all day. The story is light and fun and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Author’s voice

The story is mildly familiar (though the addition of a fun lil dragon is great) but it’s the way the author let loose with parenthetical comments that makes it more fun and entertaining than most regency era stories.

Story had some good spots and a lot of boring

It was so-so. Some of it was funny, but it drawled on ALOT. I did finish the story, but I honestly could have stopped listening at any time and not have felt compelled to finish it.

Wonderful fantasy hidden in historical normalcy

Much as I love great descriptors, my only wish was that it was a bit less verbose where it was repetitive. Otherwise, it was all a great distraction!

Charming

.Mildred Percy had begun to believe that life had passed her by. Living more of less as governess to her sister's children and being generally ordered about. Then her great uncle left her a small and unlikely inheritance. Her life opened up, totally up ending the world! . What is the mysterious rock? Hold on Mildred your adventures are calling,.

Sooo good! Zara Ramm is one of my favorite narrators.
I’m sad I don’t have enough money or credits to get the 2nd right now, but soon!

Delightful!

So much fun to read. I fell in love with Fitz, Mildred, and the Rev, as much as I enjoyed loathing the Dickensian villains.

I'm in love

It's usually hard to get attached to a character within a chapter of a book. It was easy to get attached to the main character from the first paragraph
