About this listen

This is the fifth audiobook in the "Mars Series".

There is a game on Mars similar to chess - very similar, save that it is played on a board of a hundred squares, and with ornate pieces. The Martians call it jetan, and it is as old as the civilization of Barsoom. But in the Martian city of Manator, jetan is no game. The chiefs of Manator play with living pieces - criminals, slaves, or warriors eager for fame. The opposing chessmen duel to the death for possession of their squares. The chiefs of Mantor play for great stakes, but the most closely fought contest in the huge arena was that in which the prize was Tara, Princess of Helium and daughter of the Warlord of Mars - a prisoner and slave in Manator.

great book mediocre narrator.

Love this book aww always have. The narrator all was a little too staccato in his delivery other than that it was very enjoyable.

I have really enjoyed the series

I have really enjoyed the series I wish audible had the remaining books available. These books and the reader bring alive the story as if John Carter was there telling the tell him self to you

Good story, bad reading

The sample reading showed promise, with a Virginian draw for John Carter. However the reader seemed to abandon this soon and began a very choppy rhythm that I just couldn't listen to. I hope Amazon will refund this purchase.
