Can fake dating lead to true love?

My name’s Connor Lisowski, and here’s what you need to know about me: I’ve had a massive crush on my best friend’s older brother since high school. Everyone thinks I’m straight. I have two dads, but I’m afraid to come out.

I’ve never even been kissed.

And somehow, I’ve been roped into pretending to be Reid’s boyfriend for the holidays. Who’s Reid, you ask? Only the aforementioned best friend’s older brother who never looked at me twice.

Until now.

The Christmas Veto by Keira Andrews is a gay Christmas romance featuring fake boyfriends, a bisexual king in a designer suit, first times, and of course a happy ending. Connor first appears in The Christmas Deal, but this novel can be listened to as a stand-alone.

Connor’s all grown up…

…and at heart still the same boy who won over Logan and Seth in The Christmas Deal. Keira’s ability to give depth to her characters is exceptional and in this case, brought me into a new world, that throughout—was completely comforting. Seeing as it mixed with the prior storylines I’ve come to know and love. This story was funny, heartfelt and adorable, with just the right about of spice. I hope there’s another story to come in this series next year!

Not Vetoing This Story

Connor is no longer the angsty grieving teenager. He rides a motorcycle, wears a leather jacket, studies hard in medical school, and is grateful for what he has. Acting as the fake boyfriend of his best friend’s older brother is not exactly a hardship; since he’s been crushing on him for years.

I love this series and I loved seeing Connor as a mature and happier young adult. Of hundreds of MM books, Seth and Logan, of the first book, are one of the best matches as a couple. It was great to see them, again, as Connor’s dads.

Kirt did a good job with many of the characters; especially acting as stuck-up rich people. I did not like his voice for Connor or Seth. They were not right at all. I would not have cast Kirt for this book.

Veto Vote

Another great addition to this annual fake relationship series. Reid is in a tight spot and Connor is in the right place at the right time. Of course secret crushes can make things a bit more tricky. I love the way their relationship develops. Another fun holiday read.

Great characters!

I really enjoyed Reid and Connor. This was a cute love story that just made me smile. And of course Reid’s grandmother was something else too. You don’t want to tell her no!

This was narrated by my favorite Kirt Graves! Don’t miss this!

Good story; bad narration

I loved this final installment as we got to see glimpses of past couples and characters loved from the earlier books. Connor and Reid’s romance is lovely with some quirks and surprises along the way and seeing Connor more grown up and still loving his dads is awesome.

This gets a lower rating not because of any drawbacks from the story itself, but the narration. It opens with Reid’s POV which is supposed to be blue blood and stuffy but he sounds almost British? And the nasally, stereotypical “gay” voice the narrator used combined with the sense that he desperately needs to swallow his saliva is *extremely* off-putting. I was able to power through because it got better after a little while (perhaps he finally swallowed?) and the way he did Connor’s voice was much more tolerable. Still, I will *always* listen to a sample prior to purchase when coming across this narrator in future.

Tl;dr: The story and romance was great, an excellent finale; narration is excruciating before you get used to it.

Christmas series

Love this series! I’m a little sad that it’s over. I wonder if Asher will get his story…
