About this listen

They were the professionals, the men who had been toughened by combat in the mine-laden fields of Europe, in Korea, in Greece, in Indochina. Now, in the twilight of a dying decade, they must return to the United States to forge a new type of American soldier - one to be tested on the beaches of Cuba and in a new war yet to come....

Soap opera for men

I have really enjoyed this series by W. E. B. Griffin. The character development is great and the narrator, Eric G Dove is very good. This entire series has been like a soap opera for men. I find myself getting attached to some characters and not liking others. There is plenty of military action but there is also some of the day to day stuff that happens in life. The descriptions of the day to day life in the military is very accurate and the details are spot on. The narrator gets most of his terminology right and keeps his characters in their unique style of voice throughout the series. If you're a military history buff or just looking for a good series to start give this one a try.

A great continuation of the Brotherhood of War.

The Colonels is the fourth book in W.E.B. Griffin's series Brotherhood of War. I have enjoyed all of the books in the series so far, including The Colonels.

It had been a few months since reading the preceding books and I liked how Griffin provided information about the characters in the previous books. This was perfect for refreshing my memory me of them, and will also be perfect for readers that can enjoy the story without having to read the previous books.

I especially liked the character, Craig Lowell. I also liked learning about the build up to the Vietnam War. I definitely plan on reading the next book in the series, The Berets, which is Book 5.

The reader, Eric G. Dove was excellent!

Wonderful

This story has captured my imagination and my great respect for my father Ret AF Lt Colonel and my uncle Major General WLStarnes. One of the best stories i have read in close to 400 books on Audible. If you liked Crash Dive you will love this. The narrator is superb rivaling Guidall, Bray etc. So much fun reliving history and the struggle of armed conflict and the struggles soldiers had trying to protect our country by outwitting the paper jockeys vs on the ground an in the air heros through this group of characters interactions! Wonderful!

Griffith is amazing

What an interesting perspective of the armed forces and the men and woman that keep our country safe. As I listen to this series it makes me think of my younger days when I served with pride.

Great series

All the books from the lieutenants through the generals are really excellent. I've read them and I've listen to them all several times over a 20 year period.

Absolutely wonderful again!

My only possible dislike of this book or series is that I am getting close to the end of it, and I hate to think of coming to the end because it is so genuinely enjoyable.

Love the stories, cringe at the reader's lack of preparation and understanding of military terminology and vernacular.

I've loved these stories for years. I grew up in a military family, and I identify with and understand the culture described in the Brotherhood books. That being said, I cringe at the reader's lack of preparation and understanding of military terminology and vernacular. "DCS/OPS" is the one that stands out. It's never spelled out. It's " dee-cee-ess Operations, shortened to"Awps". (I know- weird spelling). Same with DCS/PERS, etc.

I don't know if this is the reader or if it was Griffin, or an editor, but there is no such thing as a runway number higher than 36. Runway headings are based on the compass. So a controller saying "cleared to land on runway 38" is bogus.

There are others, but these are the most glaring cringe-worthy examples.

That being said, I love the stories.
