Publisher's summary

"I am Miss Lamberton. Miss Constance Lamberton. I hoped that you would employ me as your companion."

So it was that quiet, reserved Constance came to the household of the haughty but beautiful Lady Amelia. She would serve as the lady's chaperone throughout the season's many festivities, finding herself an unwitting accomplice in Lady Amelia's scheme to trap the very eligible Lord Philip into marriage.

But it was not Lady Amelia who won Lord Philip's heart. It was the pale, golden-eyed Constance herself. And very soon, Constance became Lady Philip Cautry. It was not a marriage made in heaven, but surely it would be in time.

But then Constance disappeared. Lord Philip didn't know how or why. All that mattered to him was the safe return of his beloved Constance.…

This one is priceless!!!!

This has to be one of my top favorites of M.C. Beaton’s books. It is definitely worth the price just for the Lord’s best friend! He is HILARIOUS!!!!! Buy it! You’ll love it!!!!

Nothing

Not as fun as other stories by this author. Characters were not likable or fun. More words for 15 words minimum.

Another fun, frivolous, Francophobic to entertain

The formula holds! good clean fun, great secondary characters, and a happy ending! Period details abound always with a few new nuggets of insight into the world of the Regency. Having listened to over 20 of Chesney's audiobooks IMHO this narrator, Lindy Nettleton, does one of the best jobs of any. She does country accents very well and is fantastic as old women. Her pronunciation and projection is so much better than the Dore lady I look forward to her performances rather than dread the bungling of the most common words during a Dore reading. I do listen to these around 1.2 speed but 1.5 for the Dore books. Just a thought to make it more exciting.

Don't get me wrong, I love MC Beaton

What made the experience of listening to The Constant Companion the most enjoyable?

This was an excellent Beaton title, if you are familiar with her books, this one will not disappoint, she is a real master of character, and she has some hilarious ones in this book

What three words best describe Lindy Nettleton’s voice?

The reader was a bit stiff, not my favorite of the usual readers for Beaton

Any additional comments?

My only complaint with this book was the really annoying way that the husband kept doubting the wife in a completely unrealistic manner, I guess just to keep the plot going. This happens a lot in these books, first the two unlikely people get together, then there is some harebrained reason why they split up or fight, etc. don't read this book for the plot, the characters are the thing, imo

Such clever plot and enjoyable characters

Such clever plot and nice characters, well, mostly nice, and rich with personality. This story is very different from MC Beaton's other romance stories, as it does not end at the alter at the very end but has much of other interests.
