Publisher's summary

Arranging a season for an unruly young lady whose habit is to enter drawing rooms by sliding down banisters presents a challenge at best - especially since the hoydenish Mira has a sister of incomparable grace and beauty.

Mira isn’t at all daunted by the local society and its ridiculous marriage mart. Her heart belongs to Lord Charles, who has been the object of her dreams ever since she was a child. But alas, Charles has eyes only for her ever-perfect sister, Drusilla.

Along the sidelines, the Marquess of Grantley enjoys Mira’s jealous antics - although pushing her sister into the fountains has practically ruined her social cachet. It is up to him to restore her to respectability and make her an eligible bride once again. When he succeeds, however, the lovelorn marquess will begin to wish he had left well enough alone.

The dreadful debutante

Lively story with a sassy young debutante and sister. Each jealous of the other. One demure and the other outgoing and adventurous and wanting to be loved for herself.A fun romp of a story and thankful I didn’t have to live back then❣️💃🏻🤨😆🧐

One of Her Best!!!

Having read or listened to many of Ms. Chesney’s (M. C. Beaton) books, I can say this one to me was one of her best. It had so many Georgette Heyer moments which of course for me made it even better.

Predictable, but enjoyable

A lively story. I liked the voice for narration, but the character voices were underwhelming.

A Cute Cheerful Story

This short story has a cute relaxing storyline. It's not a drama but dramatic in its presentation. If you are looking for a lighthearted fluffy story to relax into, this may fit the bill. The narrator does not do male voices very well but her voice, cadence and tone made the narration very acceptable to my ears. I would rate this narrator as talented. The combo of her voice and the storyline held my interest throughout the 5+ hours. Recommend

Funny

This was a very funny and amusing story. I like characters who stand up for what they believe and not conform to the norms when the norms are ridiculous.

One of my favorites

I have listened to this audio performance 3x in the past 6 months, not only because it’s in my library but I love Lindy Nettleton’s narrative. Her voice is so pleasing and her differentiating tone in character makes the story easy to follow. There are other narrators that my ear cannot handle and therefore I can’t enjoy MC Beaton/Marion Chesney books on Audible. The main character Mira is one of my favorites because she can’t help but be herself despite the pushback from family and peers. This Audiobook is pretty delightful.

Wrong title

Dreadful Debutant is the wrong title for this delightful rom com. Marquis and the truth” might be more appropriate.

Enjoyed

This was a sweet story. It follows the usual patterns of balls and proper presentation of daughters to find husbands.
The narrator was wonderful.
