About this listen

Lovely Alice Lacey was a true incomparable, and her marriage to the Duke of Ferrant was the event of the season. Almost no one realized, however, that Alice was secretly in love with someone else - or that she had confided her feelings to a clever talking mynah bird who announces these intimacies at the moment of the couple's wedding.

Now the gossip mongers are relentless. Alice's marriage started out, and has remained, cold and impersonal, and her new husband is already rumored to be taken with another woman.

Before she even realizes what is happening, Alice finds herself in a world of opposites: The man she thought she loved is something other than he seems; and the man she married, something far more than she hoped. Her last hope and redemption has to be convincing the man she wedded that they are in love.

There are certain authors from whom I have come to expect the most. M C Beaton is one of those authors and she has delivered for me again.
Though this title is not a favored genre, it kept me reading.

Another entertaining and interesting tale

A lovely tale, Justine Here's performance was spectacular as expected. Cheney has a razor sharp wit and always enjoyable.

Funny, Laughable

The build up to the end while predictable had me on the edge of my seat laughing my head off. I was excited to get to the next book in the series. Happy Listening!

Loved it!

Have thoroughly enjoyed all my experiences with this author. The narration by Justine Eyre is perfect for the stories she reads. Downloading more with the two paired.

Beaton and Eyre - great duo!

Enjoyed listening to this one so much that I finished it in one sitting. Humorous story from start to finish.

Funny

This story of jealousy & misunderstandings plus miscommunications is not new nor is it told in an intriguing manner. Justine Eyre’s fine performance definitely helped but can not overcome the overall weakness.

Too formulaic

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

At first, I disliked Eyre's voice, but after a few chapters I grew to like it very much. The plot is marvelously ridiculous with distinct characters.

Another happy ending

This is my first audiobook and I’m looking forward to listening the whole series. Talent writer and narrator!

I very much enjoyed the story!

The weaving of the web …both for love and money. Family and friends intervention guides the story along to a fairly predictable end.

Silly but worth the bother
