About this listen

In the south of France, where hatred simmers in the heat, a man seemingly admired, and certainly feared, drops dead at a dinner party. All of the guests fall under suspicion, including Welsh-Canadian professor Cait Morgan. A criminologist who specializes in profiling victims, Cait sets out to solve the murder - and clear her name. Add to this the disappearance of an ancient Celtic gold collar said to be cursed and there you have the ingredients for a Nicoise salad of death, secrets, and lies.

Will Cait find the killer before she too falls victim to a murderer driven by a surprising and disturbing motive? The Corpse with the Silver Tongue is the first in the Cait Morgan mystery series, a classic whodunit series featuring the eccentric Professor Cait Morgan.

Not For Me

This was an okay book with an interesting plot and characters. What annoyed me was the ending when the lead character and the chief of police went back and about who would wrap up the plot. You tell him, no you tell him. Really you want me to tell him? At that point I almost gave up on the book.

More fun than suspense

The wry self-deprecating tone reminds me of Abigail Raisin without the self-delusion. But the characters need dimension and the plot needs something of an undertow to drive the mystery. Kind of a yawner, not a bad choice if your attention needs to be divided.

.

The author struggles with the narration for the first few chapters, particularly with the Italian, Benny.
However she does start to get more confident and I did enjoy the story.
Stay with this one because the 2nd book is really good.

Dianne fro San Antonio, texas

After looking for days and days for something to really capture my interests with some different approach I really like the way her voice sounded -it fit with the mystery staged in Europe. I was taken by the first paragraph. And it is curious to me what other readers are looking for, I am so tired of trite romances and hallmark sounding mysteries. Maybe if that’s what you’re looking for okay I get it, if not maybe get out your pen and pencil and write your own book. I enjoyed the author and her descriptions of everything, I thought they were extremely done well-almost like I could see it and I liked her attention to detail —I’ve been kind of lost since to Grafton has died,Or maybe i like is the fact that the heroine is a little on the chubby side and that she is older.. I’m a Mentalist fan and her method was a correlation that I thought was fun and different.. I say.. enjoy

Delightful!

I read some criticism of the the author’s reading and was hesitant to listen to this book. I found the author absolutely delightful to listen to, and very much appreciated the author’s own voice, in every sense of that word. Fun story line, brilliant but self-deprecating hero, loved it all!

Unique, Clean and Engaging Murder Mystery

This one grows on you as you listen, getting better and better as the story progresses. I'm glad that I stuck with it. Professor Cait Morgan, a university psychologist who specializes in profiling criminals has a photographic memory. Living in Canada, but originally from Wales, Cait is off to Nice, France for an international symposium, where she is invited to a dinner hosted by an old acquaintance. At that dinner, the unthinkable happens, her host dies, right in front of her and all his guests. An investigation shows that he was murdered, and as a foreigner, Cait is high on the suspect list. The arrogant, wealthy man had no shortage of enemies, and Cait's training comes in handy, particularly to get her own hide out of the fire. The local authorities are not interested in hearing her opinion, however, so she calls her good friend and police investigator, Bud back in Canada for advice. The case is complicated and leads in a variety of directions which I found to be very intriguing. Like a great puzzle, Cait works diligently to put the pieces together, putting herself at risk as she does so. It all comes together beautifully in the end, and unlike other listeners, I loved the conclusion.

Excellent!

A new series is always a good day! Unusual characters make great mix of procedural and cozy. It is very well narrated and great fun.

witty humor and interesting plot

I found the author to be a very good narrator. She portrayed snark and witty humor very well, and there were several times when I did literally lol.
The characters were realistic and complicated. I normally can guess "who did it", but there were a few good options in this story. It was also good to hear that although the main character is a genius, she has real flaws and self-doubts that we all have about ourselves. She really enjoys her food!
Finally, I thought the story was well written. It seems a lot of mysteries, especially in the cozy sub-genre, follow a similar formula. This story was a little more unique, at least to me. I really enjoyed it and look forward to more in this series.

Good story

The story is very good, but the narration is not! It was like she was reading the book and sometimes even making the wrong pause in a sentence. I really didn’t enjoy it. I guess I will read next book on my own.
