About this listen
My past mistake is about to decide my future. She’s curvy, gorgeous, and looking for revenge…
After years of breaking my back to make it in country music, a songwriter penned me a masterpiece. Then Music City called and that demo landed me my first contract. We’d spent all summer writing music and getting close, but when Harper wanted more, I walked away.
And became a star.
Seven years later, I’m raising my daughter alone and hanging on by a thread. My career is tanking, but my manager signed me to a small Nashville label.
Run by her.
Harper Montgomery.
The woman whose heart I broke.
A woman who now hates me.
I need another hit song and she’s got the magic touch that will put me on top again.
I’ll keep it professional for as long as I can, but one look at Harper ignites a fire in me that I’ve only ever gotten on stage. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, she’s the one for me.
But how can I convince her this time it’s forever?
The Cowboy’s Last Song is part of the Wild Texas Heart Cowboy Series but can be listened to as a standalone. No cheating. No cliffhanger. HEA Guaranteed.

Story
After watching my mother succumb to a mysterious illness, I promised myself two things. I'd find the cure for what ravaged her and leave the godforsaken city where she abandoned me. Four years later, I received an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it's rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before, those whose bones are said to make up the island's white sandy shores. And restless ghosts aren't even its most daunting peculiarity.

Relatable Characters
I may not be a music star or come from wealth, but this book and these characters are very relatable. It makes the book easy to read and hard to put down.
I love how Harper Montgomery and Jamie Miller have a past connection. Even after so many years, their chemistry is still burning. That first kiss is magical, and the hotness is smoking hot. 🔥🌶💙
Single dad Jamie has the heart and ovaries fluttering. Chloe is a good kid who seems very grounded given the advantages she has. I love how Jamie acknowledges how much like him and her mom she is and how he's in trouble. I know the feeling! 🤣
I like how all the pieces fall into place as the ending nears. A bit of bittersweetness as life throws a couple of curve balls keeps it realistic. There's also a hint of what's to come in the next book of the series.
I read along as I listened to the audio book. The narrators are Sarah Puckett and Griswold Addams. I always enjoy listening to Sarah, and this is no exception. As for Griswold, he's new to me, but that man is welcome in my ears any day! His rich voice is an absolute delight. 😍🎧

Heartwarming
I am enjoying the audiobooks I've listened to by Deborah Garland. She is a great author. The timing of my listening to this was perfect because had just finished a dark trilogy. I needed this contemporary, second chance romance with easy to like characters. There were heartbreaking moments but as a whole, it warmed my heart.
Griswold Addams was a new to me narrator and Sarah Puckett is a long time favorite. Griswold's voice was deep and growly, which I love, but the truly emotional part of the performance was over done. Thankfully that is only a fraction of the audiobook. Sarah was perfection as usual.

Cowboy romance!
The Cowboy’s Last Song is part of the Wild Texas Hearts series. It’s a single dad, second chance romance.
Jamie and Harper’s book was sweet and fast paced. Their second chance to reconnect makes for a drama filled, steamy and entertaining story. The author did a good job creating this world.
Griswold Addams did a good job portraying Jamie. I liked his southern accent. Sarah Puckett did a really nice job narrating Harper.

Book 2 - Wild Texas Hearts
This is book 2 in Garland's Wild Texas Hearts series and can be read / listened to as a standalone. Our main characters are Jamie Harper and Harper Montgomery who our dual narrators Addams and Puckett brought to life! Jamie is a single dad and country music up and comer who has history with now record label VP and country music princess Harper. A night years ago that both have regrets about (for different reasons) has kept them apart but now thanks to Bluerock Record Label they have been thrown back together and the chemistry is off the charts and undeniable which can cause problems for both of their careers. Can both Jamie and Harper figure out what's most important and find a HEA?
A well written and smooth flowing romance. I would like for Jamie's character to have been a bit more alpha but I loved he had a softer side, especially when it came to his daughter. I also appreciated how Garland was able to write in the family dynamics and difficulties that both Jamie and Harper had and how it affects them and their current lives and relationships. A good read can't wait to see what's next!
This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review.

Jamie and Harper had a chance together years ago but a mistake changed all that. Years later they are forced to work together again. Harper tries to walk away but her feelings for Jamie and meeting his adorable daughter Chloe does not help. Love, lust, anger and happiness all plays in this well written story.

The Cowboy's Last Song
The Cowboy's Last Song is the second book in the Wild Texas Hearts series. This book could be read as a standalone. This book is about Jamie and Harper and is told from both of their points of view.
Jamie and Harper work together and get close one summer, but Harper wants more, and Jamie leaves to become a singer.
Now 7 years later, Harper and Jamie are brought back into each other's lives. Jamie is a single father, and trying to make it work by being a singer and raising his daughter.
Harper ends up working with Jamie again, and feelings start to develop. What happens now that there is a child involved? What happens when one or both of their careers are threatened? Will Jamie and Harper get their happy ending? I enjoyed this book, and am excited to see what happens next in this series.

Harper and Jaime
3.5*
Harper and Jaime
4*
For the narrators. Loved listening to this especially the male narrator's narration of Jaime and his husky voice.
I enjoyed listening to this single father/second chance/singer/song writers/heiress romance. Jaime is a single father raising his daughter and managing his music career. Meets up with Harper when he signs at the label she works at years later after he turned her down when she made a pass at him. The two have a connection but there are people who try to sabotage their relationship and an adorable little girl.

Terrific Story & Listen🎧 Captivating & Emotional!
This is a wonderful romance novel, not only a second chance romance, but so much more, a second chance at getting it all right, family, career and love. The story drew me in right from the start, grabbing my attention and captivated it the entire time. Jamie Miller was one a rising star, but his career tanked just about the same time as his personal life did, losing the woman he gave up for his career and then having to fight to get his own daughter. His life is finally in a good place, he has his daughter most of the year and now a record label is looking to sign him up to get him on the charts again. He was not expecting to work with her again, Harper, his only regret in life, the one who could have been. Harper wrote the song that put him on the charts those years ago, and now they want her to write another hit maker for him. She rather had never seen him again after his rejection those years ago, but she had no choice. She is looking to become Blue Rock Records’ next CEO. No one said it was going to be easy, but working with him was easier than they expected. The chemistry between them is undeniable and so are the unresolved feelings they have toward each other, except there are outside obstacles that kept getting in their way. Garland made these two work to get their happily ever after and it is an emotional rollercoaster ride. There is never a dull moment in this book, the drama is non-stop and there is angst, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. The writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. Deborah Garland, thank you for another fantastic story.
🎧📚🎧Griswold Addams and Sarah Puckett did a fabulous job bringing these characters to life and did so with a complete understanding of who they were portraying, giving each a voice that was fitting. I loved how they took each role and made it their own, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound. Addams sold it as Jamie, playing the misunderstood country music star, grasping all aspects of his personality, from a swoon worthy musician to a fierce single dad. Puckett was just as amazing as Harper, and just as fierce. Both were fantastic performing the roles of the secondary characters, too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and had you feeling them all. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to and their performance elevates this story to another level. Thank you for another amazing listen.
