F. Scott Fitzgerald makes antebellum Baltimore his setting for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, a fantastical tale with some Poe-like overtones about a baby born at age 70 who then lives life in reverse, his hair turning "in the dozen years of his life from white to iron-gray, the network of wrinkles on his face becoming less pronounced". What ramifications that creates for Benjamin's relationship with his father first and then later with his wife and his own son makes for some fantastical situations.

This was written in the 1920s, so I don't expect this to be progressive. And as any classic, it obviously have some boring parts.
But if one focuses on what the people around Benjamin are doing, it reflects so much on how people, particularly Americans, thinks at that time. They're more focus on their family name and reputations, they don't like scandals (even though nobody wanted what had happened). And if one is to relate this in today's time, I think this is still shows how in terms of aging, children and old men are considered to be not productive enough in society. That in life, your 20s-40s are your golden years.

It Is What It Is

What a delightful story! The length was ideal for the time I had available to listen to it.

Watched the movie, like the book better

I can’t tell you about the story because I can’t get passed the first chapter. The reader really reads the book, whereas, most to which I have listened sound like they are telling the story. It’s jolting and harder to follow this way.

Looking to see if returns are possible

I was surprised to see this was only 1 hr. The movie with Brad Pitt is 2 hrs & 47 min (Its currently on Showtime & I watched it) which is quite long for a movie these days.
I enjoyed listening, but you will be disappointed if you are expecting it to be like the movie. The movie adds a lot to this story.

*^*TO REVIEWERS*^*
Many people read reviews to help them make decisions on what they want to spend their money on. IMHO reviewers need to be more mindful of those of us reading your reviews. Please do not give away so much of the storyline. Books are ruined when reviewers give out more than just their opinions. There is no need to tell story details with your review. Let people hear/read for themselves instead of getting important details from your review.
Please & Thank You!!

Interesting….

This is so beautifully written. I love F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can imagine this in front of me and not the movie.

The movie does nothing for it

Good short story. Enjoyed it. The movie was better, but still gives you something to think about.

Quite different

Certainly very well written, but I don’t really like the story simply because Hildegard and Roscoe are kind of really jerks acting like he has control over his condition. I was so afraid that he would be totally alone at the end but at least he had his nana

Glad I finally read it but not my favourite

This is a riveting story, but it's written more like a synopsis than a fully realized work. It lacks a lot of detail or nuance. I think the film improved upon the source material a great deal.

Misses the mark

It was such a great book. I listened to it in one day. I couldn't stop.

Wonderful story

A short, easy listen. A classic checked off the bucket list, even if the time-line doesn't match the movie.

A classic, to be sure!
