Publisher's summary

F. Scott Fitzgerald makes antebellum Baltimore his setting for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, a fantastical tale with some Poe-like overtones about a baby born at age 70 who then lives life in reverse, his hair turning "in the dozen years of his life from white to iron-gray, the network of wrinkles on his face becoming less pronounced". What ramifications that creates for Benjamin's relationship with his father first and then later with his wife and his own son makes for some fantastical situations.

It Is What It Is

This was written in the 1920s, so I don't expect this to be progressive. And as any classic, it obviously have some boring parts.
But if one focuses on what the people around Benjamin are doing, it reflects so much on how people, particularly Americans, thinks at that time. They're more focus on their family name and reputations, they don't like scandals (even though nobody wanted what had happened). And if one is to relate this in today's time, I think this is still shows how in terms of aging, children and old men are considered to be not productive enough in society. That in life, your 20s-40s are your golden years.

Watched the movie, like the book better

What a delightful story! The length was ideal for the time I had available to listen to it.

Looking to see if returns are possible

I can’t tell you about the story because I can’t get passed the first chapter. The reader really reads the book, whereas, most to which I have listened sound like they are telling the story. It’s jolting and harder to follow this way.

Interesting….

I was surprised to see this was only 1 hr. The movie with Brad Pitt is 2 hrs & 47 min (Its currently on Showtime & I watched it) which is quite long for a movie these days.
I enjoyed listening, but you will be disappointed if you are expecting it to be like the movie. The movie adds a lot to this story.

*^*TO REVIEWERS*^*
Many people read reviews to help them make decisions on what they want to spend their money on. IMHO reviewers need to be more mindful of those of us reading your reviews. Please do not give away so much of the storyline. Books are ruined when reviewers give out more than just their opinions. There is no need to tell story details with your review. Let people hear/read for themselves instead of getting important details from your review.
Please & Thank You!!

Brilliant!

A wonderful idea indeed. Who would have thought? Although the story is short, very well structured. Scott F. Fitzgerald flew to the top of his imagination for an unexpected set back

Good story

Good story, good performance. Not life changing, just a very good story. I recommend it.

Needs to be way, way longer

The premise of the story is very interesting, but 70 years go by so quick that you don’t have a sense of Ben’s life at all, you’re left wanting so much more

An enjoyable old story

A short story in comparison to most of the books I listen too. I really enjoyed it.

Enjoyed this short story

There is one main thing in the story that is like the movie…he’s born old and gets younger till he’s a newborn and dies. That’s the only similarity. I did enjoy the short story, just know it’s not like the movie.

Kind of Outdated

I thought the story was very interesting. Some of the ideas on gender, race, and class are outdated though. It was also annoying that people were getting mad at him for something uncontrollable. It was an interesting story though.
