Great expectations personified

This is the second book by Charles Dickens I have read and the second Audible book I have listened to, (The first being Billy Budd by Herman Melville). The change in voices, the intonation of the narrative gave me the impression I was being read to by Charles Dickens himself. I highly recommend this book to any fan of Dickens work.

Simply spectacular

What can I say that hasn’t been said about this classic. It is the first time I have read it and I found myself amazed at Charles Dickens’ writing. It should come as no surprise and yet I found myself over and over again saying to myself “this man is what every writer hopes to be”. The story, the imagery, the life of Pip and all the amazing characters. Miss Haversham, Joe, Herbert, Wemmick etc. beautifully realized, layered, human. A story of real life and feeling mg’s from back when we think they didn’t feel thugs as we do today. How wrong we are. This is an adventure of the ages with feelings of the ages that will always be important, relevant and a classic to measure all writing by.

INCREDIBLE NARRATION

I have listened to many books on Audible: This was by far the best narration, making each character come alive

The actor was amazing

Much more comprehensible with the narrator switching voices so well, made it feel like you were in the story

awesome narrator

I really enjoyed the narrator. He did a good job with the different voices, and I found some of his voices for the women to be very funny. but overall he was very soothing to listen to, and fit the part as Pip very well.

great read from Dickens

This is one of my all-time favorite stories from Dickens, the ending was not what I was expecting but it is great nonetheless

great performance of a great text

one slight issue is that the enunciation wasn't always on the exactly correct words or syllables. So, sometimes, that made the very intricate and complicated sentences Dickens used difficult to interpret from the audio

Wow - great narration, great story, I’m a fan!

I was worried that this would be difficult to understand, expecting it to be written in old English or otherwise difficult for a modern American reader, but it was actually very clear and a great story. Narration is top notch. I’m becoming a fan of Dckens!
