About this listen

Jayden finds a leather book in his grandmother's secret room that was written in 426 by a shaman. Emily can read the ancient runes, and they learn about their family's curse. If it remains unbroken, the curse will bring tragedy and ruin their lives as it destroyed many of their ancestors' lives for centuries. Can they find the way to break the curse? Could Emily find happiness with her long-lost friend?

I was grumbling to myself after some less than satisfying experiences this week - not another 2.5-hour 'bonanza' that leaves you with just a brief beginning where nothing much happens except a 'hot mess' of confusion and then you are left hanging for months for the next installment - I thought, why did I get this? Well, my momentary negativity was TOTALLY unwarranted. This short story is complete (though room left for further adventures). And the pace is very fast and the story beautifully articulated - a lot happens from minute one and the adventure continues to the last minutes of the story.

For such a short book there are a lot of very relatable characters introduced and a multi-generational twist that is so fresh and interesting. If I am going to be picky, I would have liked the resolution to be a bit more fully articulated. The end was a little sudden.

I cannot finish without applauding Ann Tworek's incredible narration. She had me totally absorbed and immersed from minute one.

A very nice surprise

I love short stories like that and what makes it better is it spans many generations.
Great story line. Only thing I thought the curse had to be broken by the twin! Since that isn’t what happened can we expect a second book?
I received this free for an honest review from the author or narrator.

I would classify this as a paranormal story. It was good. I wish it was a little longer to develop the story and characters more.

Good short paranormal story

this little gem is pretty good. I think there could've been more, but it was a full story. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes a quick mystery / romance story

short, but good

I really enjoyed this short story! It was a very unique plot with great characters and some twists along the way! It was refreshing to read a book that didn’t give away the ending on the pages and kept me guessing until fully revealed.

Unique and exciting!

For a short story I feel like it had a lot of good ideas but there just wasn’t enough character development for me to relate to the characters through the story. It also felt a little too easy in some places we’re all of the characters just happen to meet under the perfect circumstances and then magically figured out the puzzles to the mystery of the curse without much trying. I’d love to read this again when it has some more development to it I feel like it is a very good start to a series :-)

I was given this novel for free in exchange for an unbiased review.

Fun Premise
