Publisher's summary

Alicia has planned a vacation at South Padre Island with her girlfriend Cassie in forever. But just as they're enjoying a day on the beach, here comes a dark fae to spoil their holiday, except only she can see what he truly is. Alicia has no idea how upside down her world can turn with a chance meeting with one of the dark fae from the royal house of the Denkar. Alicia's always known she's different - that she can recognize the mischievous fae when they show up to "play" with the humans. Only now she's faced with one highly annoyed dark fae and she's certain he knows the truth about her. She can see him, which means her life is forfeit.

Add to that, his sister arrives, who wants to play, too. And their mother, the queen of the Denkar, will want Alicia's head, once she learns what Alicia can do. And all because Alicia was attempting to rescue her friend, Cassie, on their beach excursion at South Padre Island, from the wicked fae. Now, Alicia has really gone and done it - and she's thinking she should have let the fae have his fun. Her friend's broken heart would be a lot easier to deal with, than Alicia losing her life. But it is too late for regrets. As soon as she threw the soda at the dark fae's chest, she had declared war on the fae. And he is happy to take up the challenge.

Good story EXCRUCIATING narration

Liked the story and plot line, as well as the descriptive writing style (not too much or too little). The narrator reads like a robot, though. It's horrible, truly lacking any affect or emotion. 😣

Terrible narrator!

The story was pretty good but it was almost ruined for me by the narrator. Her voice wasn’t annoying her presentation just sucked it was flat, stilted, emotional inflections in the wrong places and the fact she didn’t differentiate the character voices made everything harder to follow. Just buy the book.

Even my son enjoyed it!!!

Would you listen to The Dark Fae again? Why?

Yes, it was fun and had lots of action :) Also my son really liked it, so it is great for car rides :)

Who was your favorite character and why?

Alicia was my favorite because she was courageous and didn't let fear dictate what she knew was right. She was fiercely loyal and protects her friends. I love strong female characters :)

What about Jeanne Whitehouse’s performance did you like?

I love how she had several voices she used. Listening to audiobooks takes some getting used to. So you definitely want to listen to several before you decide you do or don't like them. I will definitely listen to more of Jeanne Whitehouse's recordings of audiobooks :)

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes we both wanted to, but you know how things like work, school, and life tend to get in the way. I also had my car break down, and my grandma's car didn't have an adapter for my ipod....my son was not happy we had to wait a week to finish our story :)

Any additional comments?

Terry Spear is an awesome author, and I always enjoy her books. I will always get her books whether in audio or book format. She rocks!!

I loved this! I was enthralled and enchanted!

Would you listen to The Dark Fae again? Why?

Yes! Because I thoroughly enjoyed the fun and the fantasy!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Deveron - because I have a soft spot for delicious heroes who think they're going to dish out some retribution to our heroine - but they end up getting it back a hundred-fold! When Alicia douses him in cold liquid near the beginning of the book, I held my breath! I liked that he didn't hurt Alicia, but that he elected to go into the surf to rinse off. It gave me hope that he would turn into a real hero.

What does Jeanne Whitehouse bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

If you listen to the audible version as I did, the narrator is very good. Her voice was clear and didn't distract me from the story. I like to listen to audibles while exercising. I can immerse myself so deeply in Terry's books, that I look forward to each session and I don't even feel the pain.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes! Yes! Yes! I laughed, I gasped, I shook my head and yelled "NO" more than I can count.

Any additional comments?

I loved this! I was enthralled, enchanted and enamored by this lively fae story that moved fast and kept me riveted from beginning to the end. There just weren't any dull moments. The characters were fun and each was on a trip of self-discovery. This is a story that would be perfect for tweens and teens . But... it's not just for the young. I really enjoyed it, too, and I'm in my 60s.

The characters shined! Alicia was raised as a human who could see the fae. All she knew about the fae royal kingdoms, she had learned from her father's journal. As she and her friend, Cassie, were vacationing on South Padre Island, Deveron, a dark fae. made a move on Cassie. Alicia literally pours cold water on him to put a halt to his shenanigans. Deveron decides that he will enjoy paying her back. He might be surprised, though, to find the tables turned on him.

Within these pages, Alicia evolves from a wanna-be beach bunny to a feisty, resourceful, and strong heroine. Deveron begins as a cocky, egotistical fae who gets his kicks by playing games with innocent humans. I didn't like him at all at first. But... he executed a complete turn-around in the story to a caring, yummylicious hero. Ritasia was witty and I admired how she supported her brother and protected Alicia. The descriptions of scenes drew me right into the story. OMG! I wish I could travel like they do! The bantering and dialogue between Deveron, Alicia and Ritasia was humorous at times and always engaging. The romance between Deveron and Alicia gave me a warm and fuzzy glow. If I were Alicia, I'd never let go of him!

Bottom-line: If you like to escape to magical fantasy worlds with fun romances, captivating characters and non-stop. entertaining adventure, rush to whatever bookstore you use, and buy this book now!
