Publisher's summary

The Dark Knight by Nick Cole continues the story begun in The Red King as the survivors band together to build a modern-day castle against a tide of dark forces overrunning Southern California. While Frank and Holiday struggle for power, Ash ventures into the night to rescue a lost special needs adult who has unknowingly glimpsed a horrifying future: a future where man is on the verge of extinction and a new predator rules the planet.

The Wyrd is beginning, and it might just be something bigger than anyone ever imagined...or feared.

Crazier and crazier

What made the experience of listening to The Dark Knight the most enjoyable?

The way in which the author continues to surprise me.

What did you like best about this story?

A surprising new character with a Batman obsession.

What does Guy Williams bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The ability to better enjoy the book while driving.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and no: I needed to pause and digest what just happened.

Any additional comments?

In the second entry of the series, we pick up where Holiday and the gang leave off, having brought several new survivors and their associated secrets into the Castle, and introducing yet another additional survivor: a special needs adult with an obsession over Batman, and some strange abilities all his own. Cole proves himself a master of taking pop culture elements and interweaving them into a story all his own. If things started off weird in The Red King, they take an even more unexpected direction here, and yet it works, and the next installment doesn't disappoint either.

A sequel no to be missed

The Dark Knight is the sequel to the The Red King. It picks up from the end of The Red King, where Frank and Holiday are still at it and the new people are still fitting in. But one night Ash goes out to rescue a special needs kid, Cory, maybe not a kid anymore as he has had to grow up fast especially after the future he has seen.

A really amazing, thought out book with awesome characters and the jump in time with Cory was pretty cool. Cory is a strong kid and maybe that is what I liked most about him he can get through anything, he is vengeance, he is the night, he is Batman, I think he is my hero right now and I can't wait to see how his story ends up. This is really a cool story and I can't wait for the next one especially with narrator Guy Williams reading, the audiobooks have been spectacular. Mr. Williams has wonderful voices for the characters and he sucks you into their world as though you are there, he is a great narrator definitely one not to be missed.

The Story Just Got Really Wyrd

WoW what a change I really enjoyed it, and loved how it ended by looping back. It also answered a few questions from the first book. Really can't wait to read the next in this series.

I'm Batman.

Where does The Dark Knight rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

As far as fiction goes this one is one of my favorites. The Wyrd Series is a great take on Post-Apocalyptic Fiction.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Dark Knight?

Without spoilers, I just love it when Cory first encounters "strangers" He's a great character and seeing such a world ending event through the eyes of an autistic kid is interesting.

What does Guy Williams bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He's a fairly dynamic reader. His male character voices feel spot on and his female character voices are ok. It's tough for male to read a female voice without it being jarring. He's good at it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book sticks with you after it's over. The characters are complex and interesting and the idea of an autistic kid dealing with such an upheaval lingers long after the book is over.

Any additional comments?

I can't recommend Nick Cole's books enough. This series in particular is an excellent "light" read and Guy Williams does a great job of bringing this book to audiobook.

Meh

That’s really all I can say about this particular book. I quite enjoy Nick Cole’s writing, but this one just did nothing for me.
