About this listen

“I’ve never read a story quite like this deeply moving, complex novel."—Jodi Picoult, #1 New York Times bestselling author

Unforgettable and utterly romantic, The Days I Loved You Most is an emotional, life-affirming novel that asks, What if you could write the final chapter of your own love story?

In the summer of 1941, on the New England shores where they were raised, Evelyn and Joseph fell in love. Now, more than sixty years later, with a lifetime between them, they have gathered their three grown children to share the staggering news: she has received a heartbreaking diagnosis, and he can't live without her. So in one year's time they will end their love story on their own terms.

Over the next year, the couple retraces their past—all the joys and regrets that brought them to this moment. They embark on a journey to live out their greatest dreams and to connect with each of their children. But as their final days draw closer, they must confront the stark reality of what's to come, and make peace with the legacy they will leave behind for their family.

Spanning the twentieth century from World War II to 9/11 and beyond, The Days I Loved You Most is a timeless tale of unwavering devotion—a moving tribute to the enduring power of love and a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is always hope and beauty to be found.

Beautifully written story.

Unique, heartwarming and fascinating perspective of a family's journey. How the in between moments...the ordinary days...can build a garden of a life well lived.

The fact that I had no clue what this was about...

I started to cry pretty early in the story when I found out one of the main characters had Parkinson disease. I previously lost my mother 3 years ago with this disease. Then I cried even harder when I found out the character with PD wanted to go leave the world on her terms which was also something my mother wanted to do. This book tore me up. its a beautiful love story but hit a little too close to home for me, I wasn't ready yet. I finished it, and loved it!

"There's not enough time. There's never enough time."

Oh, my tender heart...

This is easily one of the most beautiful love stories I have ever read. While the details vary in every way from that of my parents, the strength and conviction of the love between Evelyn and Joseph in EVERY WAY reminded me of my parents. The good, the bad, the ugly, the hardships, the best times, ... ALL OF IT!

In fact, the only other love story that had ever come close to representing my parents love story has been "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks.

This book broke me and healed me and made the loss of my parents all the more fresh. And also my.gratitude and love and appreciation for their love and examples and influences in my life.

The best way to describe their love and this book is to quote this inspired work of art:

~ "The best way I can think to say goodbye is to revisit it all. Falling in love, having our children, the grandchildren, all of it. Even the days we were lost.

"It's not only the happiest days, though they're a part of it," her lower lip begins to tremble, "but it was also the hardest days. The days I was lost, days I thought I'd lose you, when everything fell apart but you were all that I needed,"

A tear falls down her cheek, her hand clasped in mine. A hold so tender I never want to let go.

"Those are the days I loved you most."

Disappointing

Disappointing. Unlikable characters. Supposedly a great love that causes the main characters to not want to live without each other. But the author only related when they were most miserable.
