About this listen

Longevity drugs have made it possible for people to live far beyond normal expectations, and children are now an unnecessary commodity. Anna is a surplus, one of the children whose parents were selfish enough to create her and who now must suffer penance for their indulgence. But when a new surplus shows up at Anna's compound, Anna is torn between everything she has been taught and everything she hoped might one day come true.

Gemma Malley's debut won praise for its powerful message and vision of a frightening future that seems all too near.

Awesome Story!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

In the up-and-coming trend of dystopian fiction, this can definitely hold its own. You can't help but love Surplus Anna and want to see her freed of her situation. I became so involved in the story, tears flowed at its end. Beautiful example of love. It's also a series (perhaps a triology?), and I'm glad I get more time with the characters.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Declaration?

The ending was beautiful. A perfect ending, tragic, but necessary.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Charlotte Parry did a great job reading the story. The only thing I didn't like was you could hear her swallowing as well as hearing her mouth move.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The end! Read it!
