About this listen

GFL star Quentin Barnes is an orphan born into a culture that prizes family connections above all. He spent his youth struggling with poverty. When he signed his deal with the Ionath Krakens and became rich, one of the first things he did was hire a private detective to find out if his family is still alive.

The Detective is the story of that search, as seen through the eyes of Frederico Esteban Guissepe Gonzaga — a.k.a. “Fred,” a master of disguise and a truly dangerous human. But Fred’s past is just as big a mystery as is the whereabouts of Quentin’s family.

This gritty scifi/noir novel follows the tradition of Altered Carbon and Blade Runner, giving you an anti-hero that won’t stop until the job is done.

Performed by Michael John Casey, Alejandro Ruiz, Mary C Davis, Chris Stinson, Bradley Smith, David Jourdan, Nick DePinto, Matthew Bassett, Ken Jackson, Eric Messner, Sasha Olinick, Nora Achrati, Andy Brownstein.

Bad Idea to not use the same Narrator!!!

It was a very bad idea to not use the same narrator. When you have been following a series, as long as we have with the GFL series, and then change the narrator in this novella, it loses an awful awful lot and is very distracting.

Trying to get into the story with Gonzaga is just not, good. We have it set in our heads as readers of who that person is, based on their voice and their inflections. Now you throw somebody that’s not even close to his voice or inflections, but is actually completely the opposite direction and it’s very distracting. In my opinion, this could have been a great audio book, but because of the use of a different narrator in a long series like this, it totally ruined it for me!

It’s like when you have a favorite TV show and one of the main characters is replaced by a different actor. People just cannot get past who they have built up that character to be in their mind. And yes, that usually ruins the show when they do something like that . So for me, it have the same affect on this book. It ruined it for me because Gonzaga has been in so many books with one narrator’s voice, but now it is somebody totally different. Very very poor idea. Whoever came up with that is clearly disconnected from what the readers want and what we buy and spend our precious time on

Great performance!

I had read this book a few years ago and I was curious about this audiobook version. It was AWESOME! I'm so glad I got it, the story is great, although it requires that you are familiar with the GFL series, and the voices and added effects make it super entertaining.
