Publisher's summary

Across America a mysterious disease is turning ordinary people into raving, paranoid murderers who inflict brutal horrors on strangers, themselves, and even their own families. Working under the government’s shroud of secrecy, CIA operative Dew Phillips crisscrosses the country trying in vain to capture a live victim. With only decomposing corpses for clues, CDC epidemiologist Margaret Montoya races to analyze the science behind this deadly contagion. She discovers that these killers all have one thing in common–they’ve been contaminated by a bioengineered parasite, shaped by a complexity far beyond the limits of known science.

Meanwhile Perry Dawsey–a hulking former football star now resigned to life as a cubicle-bound desk jockey–awakens one morning to find several mysterious welts growing on his body. Soon Perry finds himself acting and thinking strangely, hearing voices . . . he is infected. The fate of the human race may well depend on the bloody war Perry must wage with his own body, because the parasites want something from him, something that goes beyond mere murder.

Critic reviews

"Part Stephen King, part Chuck Palahniuk, Infected blends science fiction and horror into a pulpy masterpiece of action, terror, and suspense. Three recommendations: don't read it at night, or just after you've eaten a full meal, or if you're weak of heart. You've been warned!"—James Rollins, New York Times bestselling author of The Judas Strain and Black Order

“Powerfully written . . . an unforgettable central character.” —Dallas Morning News

“Sigler is masterful at grabbing the reader by the throat and refusing to let go. Just when I thought I knew what abyss he was leading me across, he knocked the bridge out from under... I think I screamed the whole way down... Infected is a marvel of gonzo, in-your-face, up-to-the-minute terror.”—Lincoln Child, New York Times bestselling author of Deep Storm and Death Match

Violence?? - yeah, LOTS AND LOTS!!!

Ok, yes, I'm a Sigler Junkie. I was over-joyed to see this on Audible. I listened to the podcast, I bought the hardcover (I'll be donating that to my local library.). I cannot wait to see Contagious (the sequel) come out. I would love to see Scott's other books on Audible as well. As always, his production is top-notch. His enthusiasm for the story comes through in this performance. My highest recommendation for this book.

One hell of a gory story

while scotts performance is not all that, the story is great.
Sometimes making my stomach want to turn in horror.
A very unique experience overall but not found recommended for everyone.

Strange but Good!!!

Sigler is odd to say the least, but I find his books very entertaining. They are a bit gory, but very entertaining.

Hoorah Splattercore!

Would you consider the audio edition of Infected to be better than the print version?

I would never read a book like this in print, which is to say I wouldn't want to devote my full attention to it. This is a good book for listening to while drawing, working, cleaning, driving etc.

Would you recommend Infected to your friends? Why or why not?

If my friends like gore-horror, yes.

What about Scott Sigler’s performance did you like?

Scott unabashedly hams it up. I find it appropriate for his writing style. He even does squeeky creepy voices for some of the lil' monsters.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

This book is a pretty shallow setup leading to a gruesome series of violent self mutilations. There are a couple scenes where our beefy and hyper-masculine protagonist self mutilates some parts in some ways that really make you cringe.

Any additional comments?

If you listen to "Infected" go in like you just bought a ticket to see "Hostel" or "Alien:Resurrection". Know that you're signing up for some fun and lighthearted violence and creative ways of generating lots of blood.

Left me with confusion?

Would you listen to Infected again? Why?

I like the story but not the characters. If that makes sense? I just wanted to root for someone. The main characters were not like-able at all. But other than that the story went fine.

Would you be willing to try another book from Scott Sigler? Why or why not?

I might? I did like the plot. And I wanted to know more about the Triangle's.

Which scene was your favorite?

There was not one scene that I enjoyed over the others. I really wanted to like the character Perry in the beginning I liked how he struggled with who he wanted to be and who the Triangle's were making him become.

If you could rename Infected, what would you call it?

I think the title is fitting.

Grossly Great

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

i would recommend this to friend if they had a strong gag reflex. I did really enjoying this book tho there is a cast of great charecters that draw you in and wanting more and hoping for the best in a bad situation. i am def going to have to give the rest of this series a read. And please be careful if you are going to eat and listening to this at the same time, no seriously it has it's moments few and far between when it's got some grisly descriptors. Give it a go.

Buy the book instead.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The story itself from where I left off, I didn't finish the book, was rather good so far but I couldn't take Scott Sigler's narrating anymore. He would constantly almost cut off what people were saying and one the main characters he tried to give them the voice of Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead and it just pissed me off cause it was horrible. If this book had a new narrator, I would have definitely been able to finish it but I just couldn't take it anymore past the 3 hour mark.

GOOD STORY... BAD VOICES

THE FEMALE TAKE ON THE VOICES REALLY TOOK AWAY FROM THE STORY. THE PLOT IS GOOD, THE TRIANGLE VOICES ARE VERY GOOD.

GREAT story, but get a text version

Scott has a wonderfully written story within my two favorite subject matters- unknown organisms wreaking havoc and infectious disease. I loved this book and added many of his other stories to my wishlist, but I will not pay to listen to any of them. Scott's insistence on giving each character a dramatically unique voice causes a great plot line to be constantly interrupted by cartoonish dialogue. This is incredibly annoying and distracting, and takes away from an otherwise great book. If I hadn't been enjoying the story as much as I was, I would have stopped only a few chapters in and asked for a refund. If I had read instead of listened, this would be a five star review.
