Publisher's summary

Tim Cotton has been a police officer for more than 30 years. The writer in him has always been drawn to the stories of the people he has met along the way. Dealing with the standard issue ne’er-do-wells as a patrol officer, homicide detective, polygraph examiner, and later as the lieutenant in charge of the criminal investigation division certainly provides an interesting backdrop - but more often he writes about the regular folks he encounters, people who need his help, or those who just want to share a joke or even a sad story.

The Detective in the Dooryard is composed of stories about the people, places, and things of Maine. There are sad stories, big events, and even the very mundane, all told from the perspective of a seasoned police officer and in the wry voice of a lifelong Mainer. Many of the stories will leave you chuckling, some will invariably bring tears to your eyes, but all will leave you with a profound sense of hope and positivity.

Enjoyable PD stories

I own this book in hard copy but when I saw that it was available to be consumed as read by the author I could t resist.

What an enjoyable book! I laughed so much! As a Mainer, the homey references were gold.

I can’t wait to enjoy Got Warrants with my next credit!!!

As expected... a delight to listen to!

My only complaint about the book is that I wanted to hear more. TC's observations of the the goings on of a Maine cop still delight and amuse me just like his musings on his Facebook pages. His simple appreciation of the important things in life are refreshing and worth the pause to just stop and listen. I would love to hear more from him in the future.

Good man writes great stories

Tim Cotton uses his life and experience both as a police officer and member of his community to make us laugh, think about things in a different light and entertain us. I love listening to him as a narrator as he tells tales “from the jagged edge”. Also a huge fan of his on FB! Highly recommend!

Mainah

I lived in Bangor for nearly 40 years, and, due to our proximity to one of the "biker bars" in The Queen City, had an abnormally large number of interactions with BPD. I called them, and then watched them as they dealt with all the vagaries of behavior coming from Pat's. In every instance, the officers were remarkable for their humor. My favorite was the time two women were having a "girl fight" across a major street, through the alley and into the Dead River parking lot, with the object of their argument meandering along to see who would win him. The responding officer's comments to me, (By then, he was almost part of the family.), were priceless. But, I digress. If you are looking for a book that will make you believe in people again, this is a good one. My misanthropy receded markedly from listening to this book. Kindness is rampant. Good job!

Yes, sir, you are correct. Folks do want to be told stories just like these. I hope and trust you will write some more. Call Steve Jordan. He had many stories worth recording.

Oh, and I also bought the print version. I have Luddites to share it with, and it was THAT GOOD.

TRULY a feel-good work!

Bangor, Maine. Population 33,000. Facebook followers? Over 400,000 - and Tim Cotton is the reason why!!! If you like folks like Mike Rowe, you will lionize the book. The audiobook, though, is - I think - even better. It’s narrated by the author who has ‘perfect pitch’ as these are his writings. If you’ve ever wished you lived in Maine, read or listen to this - and you’ll know why I’m so very proud to call Bangor home.

If you are missing your hope... read this book!

A life journey most anyone can enjoy. Having grown up in small town America, so many of these stories were a relatable and enjoyable glimpse down memory lane - even those memories that weren't specifically mine. TC is that kind of person you just want to spend a day hanging out with and listening to his stories! I enjoyed many emotions along the way but the resounding feeling I take away is a renewed sense of hope. Hope that ultimately kindness wins and people are at their core still good. Thank you TC, this was just what I needed.

Loved, loved, loved

TC writes and narrates a lovely collection of humerous and uplifting stories behind the Bangor Maine PD Facebook page and the Duck of Justice. If you don't know about this, you should.
