Publisher's summary

Marcantonio Colonna's The Dictator Pope has rocked Rome and the entire Catholic Church with its portrait of an authoritarian, manipulative, and politically partisan pontiff.

Occupying a privileged perch in Rome during the tumultuous first years of Francis' pontificate, Colonna was privy to the shock, dismay, and even panic that the reckless new pope engendered in the Church's most loyal and judicious leaders.

The Dictator Pope discloses that Father Mario Bergoglio (the future Pope Francis) was so unsuited for ecclesiastical leadership that the head of his own Jesuit order tried to prevent his appointment as a bishop in Argentina. Behind the benign smile of the "People's Pope" Colonna reveals a ruthless autocrat aggressively asserting the powers of the papacy in pursuit of a radical agenda.

must read for all faithful Catholics

If you've been puzzled how the church continues to support public figures who promote abortion, this book gives a clear answer. The pope only wants power.

i love to see Christians fight among themselves

Would that they would annihilate themselves, both Protestant and Catholic. i grew up in sadistic Pentecostal pastorates with similar characteristics.

Very interesting

At first I was worried that this would be scandalous or sensational, but it was not. I am a Catholic and found it to be insightful and a perspective I am not able to get otherwise. It does not surprise me that the position of pope is one that is steeped in politics. The writing is clear and concise, as is the narration.

Mind Boggling

As a Protestant I am against Catholicism theologically . But this book has exceeded any expectation of what I could have thought was going on in the Francis papacy. If you want “the truth” about the current administration, 100 % must read.

Eye opening and very disturbing description of the corruption of the current Pope and the Vatican.

Fascinating

Hard to believe this pontificate has gotten worse since this book was written but it certainly seems so. We need the sequel!

Relevant

This listen accounts for the many behind the scenes, inappropriate, malicious and ineffective behaviors of senior leaders in a very important world organization. The downside is the author does not provide very many references to publications or documents which support the claims, so it makes it difficult to sift through facts vs bias. It does touch on many controversial subjects such as money laundering, sexual abuse, marital relations, abortion, and dictatorial behaviors to maintain power. Be advised for those easily offended.
