About this listen

1882—Gillian Hamilton, magic caster and special agent with the Federal Bureau of Magic and Steam, has been stripped of his title, badge, and freedom. Gillian’s true name and powers have been exposed, so now he’s kept under lock and key. To make a tragedy worse, Gunner the Deadly has returned to his life out in the Wild West and has not been heard from since.

Rumors of a doctor, known only as Sawbones, with access to illegal magic have persisted into the new year. Gillian believes that violence, chaos, and certain death will befall New York City if this criminal isn’t apprehended. And despite having lost his sense of purpose, Gillian knows he’s the only one capable of confronting this new madman—with or without the backing of the FBMS.

But such dangers should never be undertaken alone. Gillian will need both Gunner’s deadeye marksmanship, as well as his love, if he’s to detain Sawbones before irreparable damage is done to the magic of his world.

Simple the best

Poe is always putting Gillian and Gunner in the most difficult of situations. And this was no exception. But more gut wrenching. and the best part? The Guys aren't done. 🤗

Gunner really should've been caught by now

Loving the series, but Gunner really should've been caught by now given his celebrity and recognisability. It's becoming a little cliche how Gunner can turn up in some random rural town and everyone will know him by sight and have a stash of supplies just for him. Gillian may have godlike powers, but Gunner has the everyone but the authorities (and airship companies) rooting for him.

Another excellent addition

The Magic and Steam series just keeps getting better! I liked everything about The Doctor except for two things. First thing is the conversational exchange that took place between Prince, Gillian, and Gunner in the operating room where Dr Barry was putting the final body parts of a dead man together to create a living whole. I do not understand why Gillian and Gunner just talked instead of taking quick action to disable Prince and Barry. Instead they allowed the scene to come to completion so that Prince and the restored man could escape to do great harm to the magic community and a great fight ensued wherein Gillian and Gunner came close to dying or being trapped to be used by the evil doctor. That was a weak plot in an otherwise excellent story. My second issue is not about the book itself, it’s the cliffhanger that leaves me wishing Poe already had book 4 ready to publish. I’m that impatient!
Excellent narration by Declan Williams. I hope he continues to narrate the rest of the series.
All in all, I recommend the Magic and Steam series. You have to read the books in order though.

Don't hesitate to grab this steamy adventure!

I don't know why I overlooked this series for so long. I an enthralled by C.S. Poe's story crafting, and have consumed her entire blacklist. Glad this series had so many books out already, because they were so good I jumped from one to the other immediately. The Doctor is a bit more sick and twisted than the others, but it's full of fun, fantastical adventure, and a growing romance between MCs. I really want to hear more about the director and the boxer, the supporting characters have enough depth and mystery to warrant their own stories! Let your imagination and your heart soar, read or listen today. I enjoyed this series on audio book, and love Declan's narration. What a way to make furniture refinishing most exciting!

Loved this

Poe has given us another wonderful story. More of Gunner and Gillian, more of the secrets they kept. The narration was great, easy for me to follow the characters.
To me it was a good ending with a good bridge to the next book to come in the series.

Amazing listen!

This is such an amazing addition to this series. I love Gillian and Gunner! I just love getting to more about these characters. CS Poe has made such an amazing world that I just couldn't stop listening to. Then Declan Winters does an absolutely amazing job with the narration. He brings these characters to life and I just love this story even more.

Amazing

This is even better in audio than it is to read! The narrator brings Gillian and Gunner to life and I cried during the opening chapters because he hits every point of Gillian's turmoil. Plus that line "My dear, I never stopped" *swoon* Gunner is everything and the narrator nailed it every single time. So much brilliance in this novel and the narration took it just that much higher.

Stunning. Absolutely STUNNING

O gosh...where do I start?

I'm always nervous that an audible rendition will let me down when it comes to a book I deeply love, but this one absolutely DELIVERED! Declan has created such a distinctive voice for Gillian and Gunner both that I feel as if they are sitting next to me in the flesh as he reads. He took what Poe built, and literally brought it to life. And his Gunner makes me WEAK ❤️

I still stand behind this being CS Poe's best work to date. The way all the elements of steampunk romance. mystery, and the odditiies of the time are weaved in and out so efficiently that I never feel disconnected from any part of the story is top notch. If her writing was liqour, it'd be on the top shelf.

Pure magic, adventure and heart melty love

The Doctor by C.S. Poe. The Doctor with Gillian Hamilton (aka Simon Fitzgerald) and Constantine Gunner (aka Gunner the Deadly) was narrated by the wonderful Declan Winters. The story revolves around finding the architect working with Bligh and the use of quintessence that is tearing apart the fabric of magic as well as the past of GIllian and Gunner.
Poe is a master at creating worlds you could only dream of and brings them to life with the help of Declan Winters who makes them so real you feel you are sitting next to them listening to their conversations. I absolutely loved the audiobook and recommend anyone to continue the adventures with Gillian and Gunner.
