About this listen

Alex

Some people are born lucky.

Then there’s me, destined to be loved by the man who knows my darkest secret.

My gift has followed me my entire life—the ability to see the threads of fate. I can see the red thread tying together two people destined to love one another.

But my gift has another side to it. A darker side.

I can also see a simple black thread tied to the fingers of those who aren’t aware of it, connecting them to the person destined to kill them. And when I look down at my own finger, I can see the red thread stretched over to Bishop King. The man who is my soul mate.

But then why is the black thread also wrapped around our fingers?

Bishop is sweet and caring, and I can’t stop my heart from loving him. I just need to thwart fate before it separates us forever.

Bishop

I swore to never let myself be drawn back into Alex’s world, but the man is funny and charming and the moment we’re together I fall back into the familiarity we shared as teenagers.

I know this time is different; he’s hoping that I can help him walk through his dreams to figure out how an innocent girl is going to die. While his dreams tell of the future, mine allow us to find the truth. But what happens when we save a life and change fate–will it affect our own future? I can’t keep myself from falling for Alex, but what if helping him leaves one of us dead?

Unraveling the Threads of Fate is a stand-alone romance with action, mystery, humor, and a happy ending.

Unraveling the Threads of Fate is a treasure trove of beautiful narration, fully fleshed out and beautifully written plot line with plenty of suspense, romance, and mystery to go around. enjoyed it - solid 4 stars

📖 Story comment: Good pace, interesting plot with fun and likeable characters.
Has all the elements I enjoy from Alice Winters: smart characters, witty / snarky banter and detailed worldbuilding. I enjoyed the concept behind the story and people being born with "gifts", I also liked the clear distinction of the chapters set in past and present.

I'd like to see this book turned into a series, I think it has great potential.

🎧 Narrator comment: Michael Ferraiuolo does a masterful performance bringing Unravelling the Threads of Fate to life. He has good rhythm, inflections and intonations and it's easy to distinguish the characters from each other - the man is a master of snark and sarcasm and nails it brilliantly. A thoroughly enjoyable performance that I will be happy to listen to again.

Super fun!

OK, I have listened to almost all of this author work, and I love all of it. And this story was no exception, these two were amazing together.
I have to admit, when I first heard 'today' I was worried because I'm not a fan of stories that do a lot of past reflection, inner dialog, but the way it was done was not only needed but but very well done.
The gifts that people have were creative and made the story more interesting.
All in all a very good story that keeps you listening and guessing from start to finish.
The narration was absolutely top notch, Michael Ferraiuolo did an incredible job.

Should have known better...

I absolutely love Alice's assassin series, so when my 18 year old asked me to add this book to the library I hesitated saying I don't think it sounds as good as her others. My daughter said okay mom I'll listen to it first and if it's not even half as good you can just return it. Well this book, just like her others had me laughing out loud and not wanting it to end. So thanks Alice for another wonderfully entertaining book! Keep them coming! I have almost 2000 books in my library and all of Alice's are in my top 20 favs. You really can't go wrong!

A Unique Stand Alone

This was another very unique entry from an author that I seem to like. It is a stand alone story about a male MC who is able to see certain "threads of fate" on a person's finger. Unfortunately, he only sees two types of fate. A "red" string meaning that it is attached to another finger and someone's "soul mate" and a "black string" which means that one of the people attached to that string is going to kill the other person. Unique is right.

The story is told from different time periods (the "now" and the "then" ) and at the beginning of the book, we have the two male MC's running into each other after 13 years apart - 13 years and a traumatic experience. We don't get to find out exactly what happened for a while, as it is parsed out in little bits and pieces.

For the most, I enjoyed the story. The two MC's are pretty likeable guys and the pacing is just enough to get the reader interested in finding out "what the heck happened all those years ago?"

The world building is interesting as there is a world of "gifted" people but for some reason it is kind of an afterthought. Each of the MC's have a gift and they are able to use their gifts together.

Without going into spoilers, this is one of those stories that feel like the more they do to try to fix the problem, the worse the problem gets. Usually that really irritates me but for some reason this tale is told in a way that it only KINDA bothered me.

I listened to most of this on audio and didn't have any issues with the narration. This was a very quick and easy read/listen and if you suspend believability a bit more than usual, the "aha" moment makes sense. Kind of.
