While carrying out research in Paris, American historian John Craig is surprised when he runs into his old college professor. Sussman is a worried man. The world as it then existed and unfortunately as it is once again becoming. As good a read as it was years ago when I first became acquainted with the author.

Great book by a queen of suspense

I have lived Helen machines for decades . She is the master is her genre.
No need for sex, bad language or violence to “pad” her story .
No confusing plot twists !clear and present danger displayed in all her books.
So glad audible finally picked up her titles.
Narrator was pretty good after I got used to his voice.
I Would have loved to have George Guidell or Simon Vance to give it a try?

I remember these books well. I have enjoyed reacquainting myself with this wonderful author. Enjoyable.

An exceptional story that captures many very real issues with Cold War politics and espionage. The power of her books is that she always reveals the fundamental battle between good and evil embedded in the political and security based plots. The narrator has a unique voice. He does an excellent job of pacing and emotional shading.

Excellent plot as always with Helen MacInnes.

The narrator’s voice is a bit too monotone. But overall the story is ( as always with MacInnes) good enough to make this an excellent listen/read.
