About this listen

“Poland has not yet perished while still we live.”

English girl Sheila Matthews accepts an invitation to holiday in Poland, the country where her father died in mysterious circumstances. When German bombers begin pounding Warsaw, she decides against returning home and is recruited by the Polish underground. Playing a dangerous game as a double agent, Sheila must use all her skill to stay one step ahead of the Gestapo. But soon the Germans begin to suspect her and she flees to the forest, to be reunited with the enigmatic Captain Adam Wisniewski, now a wanted partisan.

Stalked by a ruthless Nazi officer, Sheila and Adam must decide where their loyalties lie: to the cause, or to one another.

What a phenomenal book. The more we change the more we stay the same. Harsh

In true MacInnes fashion you become friends with the main character. Watching their journey unfold. If she were still alive I firmly believe there would be waiting lists for a Master class on how to develop characters and storylines. For me she’s a GOAT.

Amazing

A story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Continuous action. Not for the faint of heart. Innocent young British lady vs evil Nazis. Takes place at start of WWII as Nazis invade Poland. Wholesomeness of prewar Poland probably a bit exaggerated—but it gets the point across. Well worth the listen!

Suspense

I loved this book from beginning to end. It was an original storyline. The characters were relatable. There were plot twists that kept the story moving but it flowed nicely. Definitely saving to my favorites!

Absolutely worth the read

Well-told, the excitement is almost always packed with dread, as Nazis are all about. Characters are occasionally a little too believable, but that only sells the story more successfully. There are some episodes that to some may seem slow, but they are, in my view, key to deepening the relationships, as well as giving a fuller picture of movement, which is regularly on foot for many miles. Instead of slow, to me these passages came off as descriptive of the experience, while also triggering an underlying sense of unease. A very satisfying experience

Beautiful story

Kate Reading’s narration of this book is superlative. While Still We Live is an excellent novel, which I have read many times and Ms. Reading’s sure and subtle articulation beautifully enhances every nuance of this work.

Exceptional Reading
