About this listen

In this magical, ethereal fantasy novel from the bestselling author of The Bone Houses, a crew led by a magic welding woman fight to take down the overpowered prince that used and abused them.

Once upon a time, the kingdoms of Wales were rife with magic and conflict, and eighteen-year-old Mererid “Mer” is well-acquainted with both. She is the last living water diviner and has spent years running from the prince who bound her into his service. Under the prince’s orders, she located the wells of his enemies, and he poisoned them without her knowledge, causing hundreds of deaths. After discovering what he had done, Mer went to great lengths to disappear from his reach. Then Mer’s old handler returns with a proposition: use her powers to bring down the very prince that abused them both.

The best way to do that is to destroy the magical well that keeps the prince’s lands safe. With a motley crew of allies, including a fae-cursed young man, the lady of thieves, and a corgi that may or may not be a spy, Mer may finally be able to steal precious freedom and peace for herself. After all, a person with a knife is one thing…but a person with a cause can topple kingdoms.

The Drowned Woods—set in the same world as The Bone Houses but with a whole new, unforgettable cast of characters—is part heist novel, part dark fairy tale.

Wow!

I read “The Bone Houses” first, but this book should be read first. Both books are outstanding. I can’t wait to read The Bone houses again! Trust me.

Slow start but what a finish!

Loved this book. it did take time for me to get in to the story (about a 1/3 to half way through) and finally reach a place where I felt invested in the story and characters. The beginning felt sluggish and lacked enough anchors for me personally. HOWEVER! Once storylines started to come together and as the story arch found some ground I was IN IT! The last 1/3 of the book had me invested and not wanting to stop. Great narration as well! Worth adding to your Wishlist.
Good for readers looking for a slow unraveling/pace book with great character growth and found family.

Hang in there..

I almost stopped listening after the first 3-4 chapters.. it was pretty slow in the beginning. Boy, am I glad I didn’t. Story started getting better and better! Towards the last half, I couldn’t put it down. Narrator is amazing!

Fantastic Story Fantastic Narration!!

Welsh folklore, magic, a heist, and a corgi. What more could you ask for?
This story is beautifully written, witty, and never boring. If you are still on the fence about trying this, don’t worry. Stories are often cruel to their characters, but not here. Tails were still wagging happily throughout. None were harmed.

Such good story telling

I have to say both the author and the narrator did amazing with this book. The narrator is extremely talented at different voices and emoting feeling into her voice, trembling voices, the tsk tsk, the sighs- all go toward painting a very real picture. This is my second from this author and I’m still very enchanted. Made me a little tearful towards the end and that’s saying something. My only dislike… I want more. I kept wishing that there was another part, another chapter. Very similar to Jeff Wheeler’s story telling. And I live all of those books. I highly recommend both the author and the narrator.

More please!

I loved The Bone Houses and was tentatively excited about The Drowned Woods. There is always the chance of being a bit let down after enjoying an earlier work so…but my excitement was justified! I loved this story! Id love to listen to more set in this engaging world. I’d love to hear more about the Fae there!

And I would like to submit a request for Moira Quirk to read all of the books. Ever written. For eternity.
