About this listen
It’s all about the food….
For the Robertsons, family is typified by the dinner table, where both food and fables are dished up with equal care. Anyone with a good story - whether it be a hunting escapade or one of the children’s antics - is welcome to share. And that’s what this family is all about - sharing, caring for one another, and the love of good food. Chapters are built around recipes that represent each stage of the Robertson life - chapters like...
- Fried Bologna: Here you’ll get an inside look at what it was like to grow up Robertson before all the fame and money came in. You’ll see the Robertson boys fending for themselves as father Phil was out running nets and selling his newly invented duck calls and matriarch Miss Kay was out working to keep the family afloat.
- Chicken Strips: In this chapter, Willie and Korie marry when Korie is only 18 - but only after dealing with Korie’s father - and their lives are shaped and prepared to someday take the family business to another level.
- Duck Gumbo: Just like making great gumbo takes patience and time, so did building a duck dynasty. This chapter tells of Phil’s passion and hard work in sticking with something he believed in and loved doing and how that patience and hard work has paid off.
- Dumplings, Hot Water Cornbread, and Fried Squirrel: None of the Robertsons would be where they are today if not for Miss Kay. This chapter is all about food, family, and business, and how Miss Kay kept them all laughing through the good times and the bad.
- Back Straps: Here you’ll learn about Willie’s passion for business, hunting, and friendship, and how all this led to his own company - Buck Commander - and his exciting encounters along the way.
- Road Kill: The journey to a successful family business and television show has been a long one, with a few bumps in the road. This chapter tells how the family stays together rain or shine and how, as Phil says, they all remain "happy, happy, happy".
An Up-Close View of America’s Favorite Backwoods Family
What do faith, family, ducks, and money have in common? The well-known stars of A&E’s hit show Duck Dynasty - Korie and Willie Robertson! From Louisiana’s bayou comes the story of how the Robertson family went from eating fried bologna sandwiches to consuming fine filet mignon.
Ask anyone in Louisiana, and they’ll tell you that the bayou state’s favorite family doesn’t live in the governor’s mansion but in the backwoods, where the Robertsons’ Duck Commander has become a sporting empire by making top-of-the-line duck calls.
Part redneck logic, part humorous family stories, combined with family-business tips and faith, this book is the inside sneak peek for everything you wanted to know about being a Robertson.

Infidelity, deceit, distrust, and shame. Unfortunately, these are recurring themes in many of today's marriages in America - even in the family-values-promoting, Christian-based Robertson family. With a romance that began in junior high, the couple got off to a rocky start but soon settled into married life and had two baby girls. Alan became a pastor in the church where his family had been members for years. Then, when Lisa had an affair, the heartache and the tension was very public.

Bryan Cranston landed his first role at seven, when his father, a struggling actor and director, cast him in a United Way commercial. Soon Bryan was haunting the local movie theater, memorizing and reenacting favorite scenes with his older brother. Acting was clearly the boy's destiny - until one day his father disappeared. Suddenly destiny took a backseat to survival. Seeking something more stable, perhaps subconsciously trying to distance himself from his absent father, Cranston decided on a career in law enforcement.

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Laurie Notaro isn't exactly a domestic goddess - unless that means she fully embraces her genetic hoarding predisposition, sneaks peeks at her husband's daily journal, or has made a list of the people she wants on her Apocalypse Survival team (her husband's not on it). Notaro chronicles her chronic misfortune in the domestic arts, including cooking, cleaning, and putting on Spanx while sweaty (which should technically qualify as an Olympic sport).

In thinking about her native land, Julia Reed quotes another Southern writer, Willie Morris, who said, “It’s the juxtapositions that get you down here.” These juxtapositions are, for Julia Reed, the soul of the South and in her warmhearted and funny new audiobook, South Toward Home, she chronicles her adventures through the highs and the lows of Southern life - the Delta hot tamale festival, a masked ball, a rollicking party in a boat on a sand bar, scary Christian billboards, and the southern affection for the lowly possum.

Story
Number-one New York Times best-selling author Laurie Notaro isn't exactly a domestic goddess - unless that means she fully embraces her genetic hoarding predisposition, sneaks peeks at her husband's daily journal, or has made a list of the people she wants on her Apocalypse Survival team (her husband's not on it). Notaro chronicles her chronic misfortune in the domestic arts, including cooking, cleaning, and putting on Spanx while sweaty (which should technically qualify as an Olympic sport).

Story
In thinking about her native land, Julia Reed quotes another Southern writer, Willie Morris, who said, “It’s the juxtapositions that get you down here.” These juxtapositions are, for Julia Reed, the soul of the South and in her warmhearted and funny new audiobook, South Toward Home, she chronicles her adventures through the highs and the lows of Southern life - the Delta hot tamale festival, a masked ball, a rollicking party in a boat on a sand bar, scary Christian billboards, and the southern affection for the lowly possum.

What do the lives of Lincoln, Helen Keller, Joan of Arc, and other historical figures have in common with Paula Poundstone? In the hands of this wryly observant and self-deprecating comedian, the answer is outrageously funny and unexpectedly touching. Poundstone compares her crazy life to theirs, as she holds forth on her children, her career, and the time in her life when it appeared she would lose them both.

Could you share the gospel with another person? Would you know where to start? Do you even know what the gospel is? It's the Good News of Jesus, and a gospeler is simply someone who shares it with others. Willie Robertson writes about his story of faith, which came about in large part because a stranger went out of his way—as well as his comfort zone—to have a spiritual conversation with Willie's father, Phil. And from that story, he tells listeners how they, too, can talk about Jesus with their family, friends, neighbors, and even people they meet along the way.

Would you listen to The Duck Commander Family again? Why?
I would definately listen to more books by the duck commander family. Some parts you could tell they were just reading, but some of it was almost them telling the story without knowing what was previously written.
I loved the recipes at the end of each chapter.
What did you like best about this story?
I love the show and it was great to learn more about their family.
