Publisher's summary
Whatever has happened to you, it is not who you are.
The world may know Chris Duffin as the "mad scientist of strength", but you wouldn't have ever guessed that if you saw the scrawny kid skinning rattlesnakes and chasing dragonflies in the early '80s. The story of his unconventional life will take you from gripping tales of murder, trauma, heartbreak, and survival deep in the Pacific Northwest wilderness all the way to an idealization of the self-made man - still flawed, but never broken.
In The Eagle and the Dragon, you'll follow one man's journey into the darkness of his own heart and witness the transformation of alcoholism, pain, and defeat into vision, character, and victory. Through Chris's powerful self-realization, you'll see how the human spirit can be either shackled by circumstance or freed from it.
Are you ready to walk through the fire and make your vision a reality? This audiobook will show you how.

Every man is born with just one thing: his sovereignty - his power to respond to his environment and his circumstances. Unfortunately, most men have spent much of their lives giving away that sovereignty. Every time a man passes blame or shirks his responsibility, every time he makes excuses for his performance, and every time he trades his unlimited potential for a little perceived safety and security, he willingly submits himself to the mercy of others.

This book is a collection of intimate and sometimes shocking conversations about success. Each story will inspire, enlighten, and entertain you. In Success, not only did I seek to discover what motivates high achievers, but I also dug for the philosophies that lead to success. During these interviews, I asked uncomfortable questions that led to answers that often surprised even the athletes being interviewed, because it is the subconscious mind that drives most ambitious people to achieve.

Story
What does it mean to be an adult? In the 20th century, psychologists came up with five markers of adulthood: finish your education, get a job, leave home, marry, and have children. Since then, every generation has been held to those same markers. Yet so much has changed about the world and living in it since that sequence was formulated. All of those markers are choices, and they’re all valid, but any one person’s choices along those lines do not make them more or less an adult.

Travis Macy has summited glacial peaks in the French Alps, rappelled into limestone caves in China, and raced through parched deserts in Utah. In 2013 he famously won the Leadman Series, a combination of nearly 300 miles of high-altitude trail running and mountain biking over the course of five epic endurance races. Macy achieved all of these victories without elite professional training or even exceptional strength, speed, or flexibility.

This book is a huge inspiration. Even if I didn’t grow up under such severe conditions I feel I can relate. I will definitely recommend this book to a few friends.

Perfect timing
Seriously one of the beat books I have read this year. Granted it is only Feb of 2020, yet there is a beautiful power in what The Mad Scientist wrote. it has hit home when I needed it most.

Inspiring story with words of wisdom
I was pleasantly surprised on the way the story line of past experiences played a direct role in shaping the many facets of ones perspective and ultimately leading to choices that fill a deeper purpose in life.

Thought provoking
This book is such an amazing insight to a very influential person the world of strength. At least that’s how I got to know Mr. Duffin. After
reading this book I see he’s more than influential in the world of strength but also of life overall. The book was written well and conveys the story of a man, his life and his fight with many obstacles. Even though my life is so different than what I read about I can see the practical use of the guidelines presented here.
Amazing read!!!!!

inspirational as hell!
I loved how Mr. Duffin challenges readers to look within themselves to determine what matters and what they truly value in life. then he engages readers in provoking questions that stimulate action towards living a life based on values. this book helped me at a tough time in my professional life having started a business just before the Corona virus pandemic. thanks mad scientist for sharing your wisdom and vulnerable parts of your life.

Wonderful story of perseverance
I already owned many of the Kabuki strength specialty barbells before reading this book. I remember Chris talking about his book on Lex Fridman’s podcast a few years ago but only now got around to listening. If you are in to self improvement, or business, and or strength training this book is uplifting and inspiring. It makes me feel even better to be a proud owner of kabuki equipment!!!

A much needed reminder of what we can accomplish in life.
I can’t say enough that this was an easy read/listen, but the lessons sank in and caused me to reflect, and want more out of myself. This is a must read, even if it’s just a reminder that whatever struggle you have, it’s possible to get thru and not be defined by our past. Can’t thank Chris Duffin enough for his honesty, and transparency in his writing. Must read.

Inspiring
I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. The first few chapters in the early years of his life were the most inspirational to me as I wish I had something close to but not quite as harsh to of an experience. This was a very easy book to listen to as you were always curious what was going to happen next.
