Publisher's summary

Nineteen years since the world ended and the fight for survival was constant. People had gathered in Western Oregon from all over the country, each with their own story of survival. Each fighting to make the world better, and perhaps regain some of what has been lost.

Brent Tanner, first of the children born after the end of the world, was on patrol in what used to be known as Southern Oregon when someone tried to kill him for no reason. A pretty female type someone.

Hanna had escaped a past filled with terrors and a future filled with slavery. The only thing she knew in this life was that no one could be trusted. Especially men. When she is captured by Brent after trying to kill him, she knows her life is over. Any chance of freedom is gone forever.

Surprisingly, Brent turned out to be the kind of man willing to help, not hurt. Working together, they will attempt to save the people she left behind. And maybe Hanna can learn what civilization can be.

But is it?

19 years later....my only issue we all know that most canned and package foods....with the exception of freeze dried, would not be any good. But a nice ending to the series....but I think the next book was just born.

I admire the author's respect for animals and raising children with strong values

The story was not very original, but the characters were likable and the plot was convincing. I did find there to be too much endless drama over romance.

Too many clichés, not enough difference from the rest of the series

N.B. I received a free copy of this book via freeaudiobookcodes.com. I've gone through a few of the books in this series (not in order). Some I've liked and some I haven't. This one is the worst one in the series, I think. It's too filled with the "unexpected" expected romance angle and too filled with other clichés. I don't think it really adds anything to the series, except it does show some of the bad things about humans that would happen if this were to occur that the other books didn't show.
