About this listen

Alone, isolated in the wilds of Alaska, Rachel Jordan’s only goal was to keep her two little sisters alive as the world they knew disappeared. Abandoned at her uncle’s lodge, Rachel struggles to come to grips with the new reality. Everyone she ever knew is dead or dying. Civilization has disappeared and there will be no rescue. She and her sisters must face this new world all alone.

Of course, when a boy is washed up on the beach, her problems only go from bad to worse.

Half drowned, Noah McCain is forced to accept a new responsibility. Keeping three girls alive, and finding a way to get them back to what used to be civilization. He must use every bit of woodcraft and repeatedly risk his life just so they might survive.

Only after living through a harsh Alaska winter can he focus on escape. He knows that long term, their only chance is to find other survivors. Even if that means they have to walk all the way.

Follow these young people’s trials as they struggle to not only survive but thrive in this new world.

Survival in the Wild and Dangerous Alaskan Winter

I’m really enjoying this series, and I think ‘The End of the Road’ is my favorite so far. There’s just something about young people stranded in the Alaskan wilderness, persevering despite the odds against them, that even more viscerally brings out my love for YA and post-apocalyptic fiction.

My only experience listening to narrator Nick Flesher are the books he’s performed for this series. He does a wonderful job interpreting the characters' personalities and hits all the right notes with the action and emotional scenes.

I’m waiting with nail-biting impatience to hear the next book. The blurb promises a FANTASTIC story!

Highly recommended.

I liked the descrption of Alaska and the animals.

I found some of the character's decisions questionable and the idea that they walked 2000 miles and only one person got one blister. Also couldn't they find some bicycles or horses?

Good story and performance

This is another variation on the end-of-the-world theme. Understanding that this is a fantasy book, the story is a bit too fantastical - good concept but not very believable. I had a hard time feeling empathy for the hero. The performance was good.

easy listen

this is a great series. each book tells a different story so they don't have to be read in any certain order. they are a light easy listen not over the top with violence or sex. actually, there is no sex but a kiss and imagination.

Multiple POV Post-apocalyptic Survival

N.B. I received a free copy of this book via freeaudiobookcodes.com. I've not read the others in the series, but this was enjoyable. I was a little confused early on with the switching of POV, but once I figured out it had happened, it was fine. I'm curious to know if the plague has any further details in the rest of the series. I think the author did a good job capturing the mutual awkwardness of teens that like each other.

Lazy

It’s ok, but it seems like the author got lazy just trying to pump these stories out. The writing is rushed and the story suffers for it
