About this listen

Special agent James Cronley Jr. finds that fighting both ex-Nazis and the Soviet NKGB can lead to strange bedfellows in the dramatic new Clandestine Operations novel about the birth of the CIA and the Cold War.

A month ago, Cronley managed to capture two notorious Nazi war criminals, but not without leaving some dead bodies and outraged Austrian police in his wake. He's been lying low ever since, but that little vacation is about to end. Somebody - Odessa, the NKGB, the Hungarian Secret Police? - has broken the criminals out of jail, and he must track them down again.

But there's more to it than that. Evidence has surfaced that in the war's last gasps, Heinrich Himmler had stashed away a fortune to build a secret religion, dedicated both to Himmler and to creating the Fourth Reich. That money is still out there in the hands of Odessa, and that infamous organization seems to have acquired a surprising - and troubling - ally.

Cronley is fast finding out that the phrase "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" can mean a lot of different things, and that it is not always clear which people he can trust and which are out to kill him.

Thank God Scott Brick is back

The first three books of this series were marred by the narrator. His voices were at odds with those of previous narrators in the Honor Bound series, his German pronunciation was inconsistent, and his pronunciation of SIGABA drove me crazy.

Strangely, Brick pronounced SIGABA like Sendese in this book, not like he did in Honor Bound. I attribute this to Brick actually listening to previous books in this series, something not many narrators do.

While this series is not as good, in my opinion, as Honor Bound, and at times gets tedious, I find that I appreciated it more on this, my third time through. The characters are not as engaging, Jimmy Cronley is no Cletus Frade. The plots are more convoluted and not as satisfying.

Is this the end??

So as usual W.E.B Griffin tells a great story and continued the Clandestine Operations series as he always does. Great story good accurate (for fictional stories)detail and the characters are your friends before the books over. BUT!!!! The ending???? Could this be the last C.O in the series??? Or could it go on???

Disappointed in character acsents

Scott Brick did not follow thru with characters, german , Polish and British accents as he had done in te previous books. Almost all characters had American accents.

Good Read Need Book 6 ASAP

If you have read every WEB Griffin book as I have....This book is as expected with enough repeated parts of other books to be able to stand alone if it is the first WEB Griffen you ever read. Story started slow this time and keeps you wanting a book 6 in the series. Scott Brick does a fine job; not my favorite performer. Story is full of realism and history. Give it a listen. Hope book 6 is in the works.
